How to face a job interview?

Being interviewed for a job is one of the most stressful situations we can face, fear is normal when faced with a new situation and our brain is biologically prepared to give two answers: fight or flee.

If we ran away we would probably lose any chance of getting the job, so in such circumstances the best chance is to fight. Our brain isn't prepared for this kind of struggle and will do something that isn't convenient for us: release a large amount of adrenaline into the bloodstream.

This will cause the heartbeat faster and the musculature to prepare for imminent danger. This conditioned reflex was very useful when in the past we had to face a dangerous animal but it's a totally inconvenient in a job interview.

First recommendation would be to try to gather as much information as possible from the company you want to work for and to try out possible questions and answers with someone you trust. Before the appointment we can relax with a little exercise, also calm down to practice between 5 and 15 minutes of daily meditation and to relieve nervousness in its most acute phase the most effective thing is to learn breathing techniques.

A good trick is also to forget the number of people against whom we compete, scientists from the Israeli University of Haifa and from Michigan in the USA did an experiment with 74 students who had to answer a questionnaire. A part of them were told that they were going to compete with another 99 candidates while another group explained that they faced only 9 people. The one who believed that he had fewer rivals took an average of 33 seconds less to answer the questions, this person was therefore more relaxed.
