On Meditation

When we understand our conditioning that traps us in a pattern of thinking and use of the mind, we can then break this pattern by proper observation of it. It is by this process of observation that meditation arises by the proper definition of it.

The western (probably eastern too!) error is to try to “use” meditation rather than to enter a state of meditation. To use meditation as a “tool” to an end is to perpetuate the cycle of fostering psychological disorder.

Meditation then is the process (which is not at all really a process) by which we observe the movement of thought, but without participating in the psychological conditioning that seems to arise from thought.

Meditation can be seen more than the practicing of freeing ourselves from such conditioning-it IS freedom from such conditioning.

In this we can understand that meditation is to have no method or procedure other than proper use of the mind and giving the proper role to thought. The conditioned mind would call this a new religion; the unconditioned mind understands it to be a changing of one's core beliefs.

Meditation, true meditation, has no posture, no mantra, no ideology. It is simply observation of thought, without participating as the thinker.

As anxiety inevitably arises from problems the psychological mind wishes to resolve, the mediator simply observes but without entertaining the naturally tenancy to resolve these problems and without ever trying to escape the anxiety.

A new paradigm is born and fostered with (such) meditation.
