THE WAY YOU GREET PEOPLE SAYS EVERYTHING ABOUT YOU

in #psychology8 years ago (edited)

People lie, this is a simple fact. But let´s call it trying to lie. Every time we lie we do something that exposes us. Maybe it´s an eye twitch, scratching your head, or whatever else from the big bag of uncotrollable reactions. So it´s possible to spot a lie on the spot. But who are we lying to? Sometimes to others and sometimes to ourselves.

It may sound a bit too analytical, but scienes still agrees that no human reaction happens without a reason.

In this day and age it´s embarrassing to be dissatisfied with life or at least to show it. But we have tools like Facebook where we can quickly create a public persona which fits the demand.
Every marketing strategy starts with turning weaknesses into advantages. It is the same with words that come from your lips and mine. Every time they speak, they have a plan with us knowing it or not. Even with saying the simplest »Hey!«.

The greeting is the first information we send out when interacting with people. It doesn´t have an agenda- not the one we are aware of. Greeting is the most honest thing we do. After that events go carefully planned.

Greeting always has a message. Sometimes for others, sometimes for ourselves.

We will take look at some examples of people that I know personally. They all come from a stressful work environment and most of their life revolves around work.
Stress is a fascinating phenomenon but this time it will be of special help because it makes the signs we are looking for that much obvious.

Katherine (that´s how we will call her this time). Her Hey sounds more like HEEeey. The curve of her tone goes much lower than it starts with. And she starts with lower tone than her usual speaking tone. Her head slowly drops as she is saying Hey. Katherine is working 220 and more hours per month in a very stressful environment. It feels like Katherine´s Hey is telling you that she´s having a tough time.

Todd (we will call him Tod this time) is 35 years old waiter also working 200 + hours per month.
Todd is worried about his future. With his lifestyle he will never save up enough money to open up his own business. He is single and can´t really find time to visit places and meet girls.
Todd greets twice. Loud and crisp. GOOD MORNIING GOOD MORNIING! End of the word is always a bit prolonged. His curve of tone goes much higher than it starts with and it starts with a higher than normal speaking pitch. From the sound of it he´s in a hyperactive and positive mood but he never makes eye contact while greeting.
Could it be marketing? Turning weaknesses into advantages? But marketing for whom? Who is the potential buyer of the idea? Himself off course.

Mary says Hello with always showing her teeth. She rolls up her upper lip and knits her eyebrows down looking a bit angry but right after the greet she gives a bright smile.
Mary has a moody boss who gets into conflicts a lot for no apparent reason. It looks like Mary is alert all the time expecting a conflict.

Greeting of every person is a world by itself and we could go into endless details if we had more information on every individual.
But you can have great fun with listening to your own and trying to decode it. It may be a lot harder than it appears ut it could help you discover and solve many things.

Take care of yourself and those around you.
