Seeing Through the Lies

in psychology •  2 years ago

In the minds of most Americans the word Propaganda calls up images of the Nazis or Communist leaders spreading lies to their populace. For me, I remember watching the invasion of Iraq and laughing at the Iraqi Minister of Information Mohammed Saeed al-Sahhaf tell his people that they were winning against the American military as the Iraqi forces were being soundly defeated. Little did I know that the joke was on me. Our government has been using propaganda on its people since the government was created and it has intensified in the past few years.

Merriam-Webster’s Dictionary defines propaganda as: the spreading of ideas, information, or rumor for the purpose of helping or hurting an institution, cause, or a person. Another definition that the dictionary uses is: ideas, facts, or allegations spread deliberately to further one’s cause or to damage an opposing cause. This second definition would make the article you are reading propaganda. It certainly is my intent to further my cause, namely liberty. Google defines propaganda as: information, especially of a biased or misleading nature, used to promote or publicize a particular cause or point of view.

When I talk about propaganda, I am referring to a government's use of lies, half truths, and deceptions to mislead its people. We Americans like to believe that our government is good and our news media is independent and can be trusted. That delusion is falling apart. Hopefully by the end of this post, you will realize that our government is like all governments and constantly uses propaganda. In fact they use it more often and to a greater effect than anyone in history.

As I said before propaganda is not a new tool in the woodshed of any government, even ours. President Woodrow Wilson would be key in developing and using modern techniques for the purpose of controlling the American people. In the early 1900s the men and women of this country were largely against war and foreign intervention. Wilson changed that. He decided to “make the world safe for democracy.” The method he used was to eliminate freedom starting with the press. It was his strategy to control and censor the media. Part of this campaign by his administration was to paint anyone who disagreed with the war as not loyal and as enemies of the people.

One of the most effective members of Wilson’s, “Committee on Public Information,” was a man named Edward Louis Bernays. He worked at supporting the messaging for the war effort. After the WWI ended he focused on the American people. This is what he said.

“There was one basic lesson I learned in the CPI- that efforts comparable to those applied by the CPI to affect the attitudes of the enemy, of neutrals, and people of this country could be applied with equal facility to peacetime pursuits. In other words, what could be done for a nation at war could be done for organizations and people in a nation at peace.”

Adolf Hitler, and his minister of propaganda, Joseph Goebbels learned directly from the writings of Bernays. In Mein Kampf, Hitler admires the use of information control used by both Britain and the United States. They employed the example of our government and our former president to create the war machine behind the Third Reich.

In 1948, the Smith-Mundt act was passed. This act forbids the use of “information and psychological operations aimed at influencing U.S. public opinion.” Of course the government ignored this act, but under the provisions of the act it did so illegally.

In the National Defense Authorization Act of 2013, there was an amendment added to the bill by Mac Thornberry, a Republican from Texas, and Adam Smith, a Democrat from Washington, that nullified the Smith-Mundt Act and once again made propaganda legal again. When Barack Obama signed that act, he again destroyed the right to a free press. In his article for Business Insider Michael B Kelly said that this amendment would allow government to, “directly disseminate campaigns of misinformation to the US Public.”

Our media is being used as a weapon against us. They bombard us from every side with propaganda. This, in my opinion, goes even farther and amounts to mind control. No matter which party is in power they all have the same goal, to control the American public. In the current administration they use distractions everyday to stop each of us from thinking for ourselves. Our television screens fill with talk of Russian involvement in our elections from both sides while the Trump administration passes bills that continue to strip liberties away and steal money from us. His tariffs are just an early and easily misleading theft because it is not called a tax. He has even commented about taking away guns and giving due process later.

On top of this, his administration has failed to do anything to keep the pro-freedom promises he made on the campaign trail. How is repealing Obamacare going? Don’t get me started on his militarism all over the globe. Trump is just like the presidents before him, a liar, a fraud, and using the propaganda arm of the centralized government, the media. Even his fake disdain for the media is part of this act of misdirection. Propaganda is everywhere.

In the past few years it has even become worse, as the public gets their information from the internet. The government has sought to control that as well. Is anyone not on Facebook? In an article in The Times of Israel, Robert McNamee, says of Facebook, ”In order to maintain your attention they have taken all the techniques of Edward Bernays and Joseph Goebbels.” He continues with, “And all of the other people from the world of persuasion, and all the big ad agencies, and they’ve mapped it onto an all day product with highly personalized information in order to addict you. We are all to one degree or another addicted.” Add to that, this question from Mother Jones, “Where does Facebook stop, and the NSA Begin?” We pump government propaganda into every interaction in our lives. Where will it end?

The answer is easy, with you. This post is only one of millions. I used the internet to find all of the information in this post. I have just scratched the surface. I could write and many others have written books full of all of this information. The same tools that they are using to control us, we can use to set ourselves free. Information is everywhere.

Sure there are better places to get that information. I use Steemit way more than Facebook. It is not censored and free of government control. I look with a skeptical eye at any article. I question myself and what I believe. I also limit the time I spend watching movies and TV. When I do watch I look for the obvious propaganda. A perfect example is the show Arrow, based on the DC comic Green Arrow. When they started pushing for gun control I stopped watching. I naturally do not watch movies that glorify war. In other words I stay vigilant and conscious of what my mind receives.

I also think we have to resist only living in the digital. Yes, I love technology, but I also love a good book, a great conversation in person, or a stroll through the woods. We cannot disconnect to the world around us. Share yourself and share in the rest of this wonderful world.

The solution to Propaganda is easy. A couple of weeks ago I wrote another post for Adam Kokesh on Harriet Tubman. In my study of this fantastic freedom fighter I found the answer. Slavery is a mindset and one I do not have.

You are reading this article on the Steemit page that belongs to Adam Kokesh, so I think that it is a fair bet that you also do not have a slave mentality. Do not fear the government propaganda; it is just another symptom of the last death gasps of a dying beast whose time has passed.

that's the art of propaganda to control people, and the worst thing is they used it for their own interest, they should used propaganda as the tool to benefits all the people and not only for the small group of people.

The lies have gotten really unbelievable. It is sad.

The brilliant trick that Bernays played was that he realised propaganda was at its best when people didn't know they were subject to it. The 'engineering of consent' as he said. Drawing parallels with Soviet and Nazi propaganda is really interesting because, in both cases, the people were fully aware that they were being manipulated, often willingly so. Just because it was propaganda millions still agreed with it. It is Bernays 'engineering of consent' that is so insidious in the Western MSM. I agree with @eliyanafox, it is a global phenomenon. However we have been duped into believing we have a free and open press. We don't, it is a corporate propaganda cartel that consistently promotes a globalist agenda. The sad reality is that Soviet citizens knew Tass were trying to brainwash them, and treated their information with the contempt it deserved. We on the other hand uncritically accept pretty much everything fed to us by he lying MSM. A sad state of affairs I'm afraid.

You are aware that Kyle Lowry is not trending right now... :)

well write,,, being the strong nation, He must save mankind.

Yeah you are right the US peddle propaganda. But they are not alone. Many Western media are hardly a paragon of objectivity also. The only difference is that the Russians are quite capable of making things up whereas Western propaganda is usually more subtle. Instead of telling outright lies the MSM simply cherry picks the truth. They do not print all the news that's fit to print, but all the news that fits the narrative. And if the story does not fit the narrative, but is too big to ignore, it will get 'spun' into position. Even - or especially - in democracies it is necessary to 'manufacture consent'.

Propaganda is in modern times a development of the left-wing. Starting most prominently with the National Socialist Democrats in Germany of the 1930s. Socialist, communist, fascist, all are considered to be from the left-wing.Trump on the other hand is clearly not a politician and neither Republican nor Democrat. It does not appear that Trump has any ideological leanings except what appears to be free-market capitalism.
In the United States there are vast sources of information. Government control is considered anti-American and abhorrent to most people. It's a highly competitive environment with few barriers to entry other than a computer and access to the internet. The United States is 180 degrees different than Russia today. Many people apparently knows little to nothing about political propaganda. Even less about Trump. I make no observation as to Putin. As an opinion piece, it falls into the category of fake or bias news. Basically it may be reasonably said that this opinion piece is little more than propaganda for the left-wing agenda.

So, is it your opinion that George W Bush did not use propaganda? Myself, I do not believe in the left/ right divide. That being said I think you are the first person to say that I am a leftist.

As for free market capitalism, how are tariffs free market?

Trump is just like the presidents before him, a liar, a fraud, and using the propaganda arm of the centralized government, the media. Even his fake disdain for the media is part of this act of misdirection. Propaganda is everywhere.

I agree with you here you talked about important issue which is influencing our life and motivating us everyday in their way. Media is like pet dog of government. Using media government always pull public in his way to make more strong centralized government. Like trump doing lot of shitty work and motivating people in the wrong way by lying and using his main arm" Propaganda". Sir people who support and love freedom like you will never motivate by fucking Propaganda and frauding of centralized government.
I just impressed by seeing your extreme psychology analysis.Really You have gained a deep political knowledge, it take you into another level.
Love you Adamkokesh Sir, You are such a great man. I'm a huge fan of you.

God Bless You @adamkokesh Sir : )

Who knows what will happen to America a year or two from now?

If people would just submit to the government's and their puppet master's demands without question there would be no need for propaganda. The surfs brought this on themselves.

Unfortunately for them technology is a double edge sword that can be wielded by both sides.

Propaganda like you rightly said has been a tool used by government to divide, lie and kill its citizens since the media has also lost its freedom they are not innocent.

My country Nigeria 🇳🇬 the federal government have continued to hurt, kill, destroy, damage, basterdizie, and demean its citizens. They have used it to incite violence amongst its citizens. To stop propaganda the media most first be free, then we know have another war of killing propaganda itself. There are millions on people who believe the media is 100% independent and free, little do they know its either owned or controlled by the government.

@adamkokesh freedom we want, freedom we must fight for....

"Aluta continua, Victoria ascerta"

"Amanga Awetu, we shall not relent"

Freedom must come. Vote @adamkokesh for president.

Politics always have something to hide. It a earthly problem.

While reading your article, I couldn't help but take your points on propaganda and mind control, and bring things a little deeper by mentioning organized gangstalking...gangstalkers are bringing control to the streets by attacking whistle blowers and other targeted individuals including me. Censorship, harassment, hacking, soft kill tactics.

For anyone first hearing about it, it's alarming, but it's real, and I'm one of their victims. Maybe you and @adamkokesh should investigate it, thousand of others experience the same things as me.

Former FBI Assistant Director, Ted L. Gunderson, said this on March 19th, 2012:
"Based on my investigative work...I have come to the conclusion that
thousands of victims have been targeted by an illegal government rogue
criminal enterprise that is active 24 hours a day in the U.S. This
conspiracy is far too active to be controlled or operated by private
enterprise whose goals are achieving financial gain. These operations
require extensive financing with no return on the investment. This
program's operations are financed by illegal black operations, i.e.,
narcotics, prostitution...
I have documentation and know that throughout the U.S., operating 24
hours a day and 7 days a week, there is a Central Command...whose
administrators can instantly initiate surveillance, phone taps and
harassment against anyone in the any time, day or night. I
have files on numerous cases of active, programmatic, illegal
government harassment currently being conducted against thousands of
Americans. This makes the FBI's former COINTELPRO program, which I
worked on, including in a supervisory capacity, look like a Sunday
school program by comparison"

Sorry if I seem to be changing the subject, but to me, the ideas coalesce into one. I've written a couple of gangstalking articles lately if you want to check out my blog. :)

Libs have surrounded themselves with an alternate version of reality based on a unicorn 🦄 &lollipop 🍭 utopia while using false narratives to peddle propaganda. They’ve become unhinged to the point they’re unable to interpret fact from fiction! #PropagandaEverywhere

I agree with you @marcus.pulis

Do not be afraid of government propaganda; it is just another symptom of the last breath of death from a dying animal whose time has passed.

Propaganda must be resisted and need not be feared

because, so far the government has put a lot of pressure on new ideas from the community and forced them all to do what has been planned. Without any denial of it. Even in some ways people who do not fit the ideology will be executed. In this modern era. Propaganda becomes something important. If the state wants to organize all its citizens to comply, they will make a reliable proganda.
propaganda needs to be realized is the biggest crime of the government that needs to be destroyed so that people no longer become victims.
Thanks for this @adamkokesh

Today you show the reality of our present world.

strong nation should come up with a responsibility in the movie spider man movie he said great power means great responsibility towards the nation and mankind

Very interesting and a very good writing. and my conclusion of your writing is that propaganda is a tool of authority to influence the thought of they controlled or the enemy. Under of war conditions, propaganda is used to improve the mentality of warriors and weaken the enemies mentally. whereas current propaganda is used as a ruling imaging tool to mask the depravity and rottenness of the authority. Best regards @adamkokesh, i resteemed your post thanks.

Well said, The government tries to cover all of their tracks and feed us with lies. One can't help but imagine,

Why is FOX news the official white house station and CNN is always talking bad of this administration and painted the former as saints?

They have one thing to hide, lies and give us propaganda.

The truth always comes from Adams

US being the strong nation, whether attempting propaganda or wise rules. He must save mankind.

That's just the present situation of how the world is... Propaganda is now the day of the order

Especially the hypocrisy that has already unfolded and is still unfolding in the United States is just unbelievable. Yet for some reason, people in the republican states are compleetly oblivious to the obvious manipulation and lies. "Disregarding" an insane amount of information available to them that would unmask the hypocrisy. I'm thinking of writing an article about money being considered speech by the American law-doctrine, for cooperations. I don't think it deserves enough attention.
