Living Psychedelically

Living psychedelically is trying to live in an atmosphere of continuous unfolding of understanding. So that every day you know more, and see into things with greater depth, than you did before. (Terence McKenna)

There is below the ordinary surface of space and time,
ruled by relativistic physics there is this strange domain of
instantaneous connectivity of all matter, of all phenomena.
It raises the possibility then that the imagination is, in fact,
a kind of, organ of perception. Not an organ of creative, of unfoldment,
but actually an organ of perception. And what is perceived in
the imagination is that which is not local and never can be.

Where is the imagination appropriate?
It is most appropriate in the domain of human, creativity.
That in fact separating art from imagination is simply
the exercise of separating, cause from effect.
Art, sculpture, poetry, painting, dance is like
the footprint of where the imagination has been.
it's not about the process, the process is about
making, being, the act of creation.

What the rest of us have been left with is,
a husk, a tracing, something left behind which says
“Imagination was here, imagination acted in this place,"
and this is, this is what it left.

The human imagination is almost an extension of the visual faculty.
Imagination is something that one beholds,
the imagination is actually a kind of window onto realities not present.
A future that might be. It is taking the raw data of experience and giving it,
a maladaptive spin. Program or be programmed, Hacking possibilities.

The bizarre combination of these fragile bodies with fragments of memes from
that volatile hyperspace certainly taught me about the parallel narratives
present outside of time, and about art and how image and text can
combine to evoke emotions far bigger than what they represent.

The great bridge between art and science that was supposedly built-in
the 20th century hinged on “What is the imagination?”
is a different way of asking the same question
“What is the origin of consciousness?

From what I understand of existentialism, it says we should make our own meaning in an indifferent universe. Aldous Huxley corrected Sartre by saying nature is not mute, as Sartre felt, but obviously, it is humans who are deaf. Existentialism seems like an ends, but I’ve learned that it can be more like a phase.

It’s a very salutary thing to realize that the rather dull universe in which most of us spend most of our time is not the only universe there is. I think it’s healthy that people should have this experience (Aldous Huxley)

As I mention in Lastest Psychedelic Sunday Video, Its one thing to know something intellectually and it's a whole other thing to have the felt experience. And that's what happened to me when I had my first 'real' true psychedelic experience. It was on a private beach in Santa Cruz, it was a group of 5 really close friends, and we took 5 grams of shrooms and 1 double stack tab of MDMA. Its what called hippie flipping.

More then amount and the combination of psychedelics I took that day, is the setting, I was out in nature with a small comfortable group of friends. I felt safe on the beach and was able to let go and ride the psychedelic wave. As I was sitting down on the beach waiting for the shrooms to hit me. Experiencing the breeze, the feel of the sand between my hands and feet. I began to notice, the beach seems to move up and down, and then I had this sense of the earth herself was breathing.

Now I knew at this time about Gaia, actually, I just read James Lovelock book Gaia. I understand intellectually that the earth was alive, but now I was actually feeling and experience Gaia. Communing with nature, everything became vividly alive. How the wind danced, how the leaves of the trees moved with there own motion, sing and dancing to the heartbeat of the universe. I am not looking at the world, not apart from it; I'm having the felt experience of it by a continuous process of transforming it into myself, so that everything around me, the whole globe of Gaia, no longer feels away from me but in the core. This experience is seared into my consciousness.

There is a wealth of information built into us … tucked away in the genetic material in every one of our cells … without some means of access, there is no way even to begin to guess at the extent and quality of what is there. The psychedelic drugs allow exploration of this interior world and insights into its nature. -Alexander Shulgin

That experience unlocked something in me. I didn't have words for it at the time, but I was communing with the mystery. Trying to really understate things and having felt experiences. As I said in the Psychedelic Sunday Video, really began the integration process. I heard the message from Teonanácatl for the first time. The process I believe is a never-ending one.

This is what brings me back again and trying not to just read Terence McKenna or any Writer/Thinker that really speaks to me, but to commune with them. Really dance and have Dreamtime Conversations with them and play with their Ideas. Which is why I wanted to make this post, base on that quote by Terence about living psychedelically. Even though I haven't taken psychedelics in years, I am still striving to live psychedelically.

Living psychedelically is trying to live in an atmosphere of continuous unfolding of understanding. Invoking a world of conscious, living mystery. That's what the world is. The world is not an unsolved problem for scientists or sociologists. The world is a living mystery: our birth, our death, our being in the moment -- these are mysteries. They are doorways opening on to unimaginable vistas of self-exploration, empowerment and hope for the human enterprise. And our culture has killed that, taken it away from us, made us consumers of shoddy products and shoddier ideals. We have to get away from that; and the way to get away from it is by a return to the authentic experience of the body -- and that means sexually empowering ourselves, and it means getting loaded, exploring the mind as a tool for personal and social transformation.

I think by selecting certain events in my life to examine, creating art, recalling dreams, writing poems and blogs, I’m creating and nurturing narrative threads for my life, increasing and stabilizing my meaning. Thank you to all that are apart of this process, reading and commenting on my strange weird expressions.

The man who comes back through the Door in the Wall will never be quite the same as the man who went out. He will be wiser but less sure, happier but less self-satisfied, humbler in acknowledging his ignorance yet better equipped to understand the relationship of words to things, of systematic reasoning to the unfathomable mystery which he tries, forever vainly, to comprehend. (Aldous Huxley)
