It is hard for a father to be separated with his only son.

Hi! I'm Allan as overseas Filipino working here in Dubai. When I was in college something happened in my life that change me forever and I figured it out that trying to reverse time is not an option. Here's my story....

Let's play hoops!! That is what you will always hear from a happy go lucky student about 13yrs ago. All he worries about is improving his basketball skill not I guess you all know who he was. Yeah, you're right that's me.

Back in college, I used to play basketball to provide for my tuition fees cause I get a full scholarship for playing. Everything was so smooth until I finish my studies.

I continued playing setting aside my field. I played semi-professional basketball for a local franchise in the Philippine Basketball League. Until I met a girl from the same college I came from, She was so pretty, Smart and caring. We started to go out on a date for several months until she gave me her "yes" to be her boyfriend.

We are in a steady relationship until a gift from above just showered down upon us. "It's a boy!" We were so happy that we forget about how hard is it to be a parent Before her tummy gets bigger we decided to live together.

Having a wife is a life I never expected to be that hard. I lost focus on my basketball career, I started to find a job away from my degree, trying to save money for the birth of my son.

I manage to find a job in a local fast food chain in my country but my income is not enough for our needs. I was then cut out of my team losing my dreams to become a pro and become a pilot.

As time passes by our lives became miserable as we started to fight over money, until the day my son is born. I think that is the last day you guys will ever see us happy. Problems continued to strike us and worsen it by the interference of her parents on how I raise my own family.

After 6 months we got separated and as a rule, in my country, my son should go with his mom if he is below 7 years of age. My worst fear comes to reality, be away with the two persons that I loved most. I was crying every night that if I choose the hard way of pushing my profession and my career as a player I wouldn't lose them. I feel like it took my son away from me.

Years had pass and I found a new hope for myself. I began to dedicate all my work to my parents. I've reached four countries working as an overseas worker. I learned a lesson, realizing that if I didn't give up my dreams I would never be away from my beloved son.

Life can strike you in so many ways, sometimes it gives us temporary joy that diverts us away from the right path we should have taken. Learn from your mistakes and don't give up your dreams no matter what cause eventually your dreams will take you to the true happiness and not the fraud that we experience every day.

We have to learn that taking on an easy path will not give us happiness, but will led us to an eternal slumber. Don't give up and try taking the hard path cause, in the end, is where forever happiness lies ahead of us.

I've moved on, I learned my lesson, and I've changed my life now. I'm earning enough money and reconnected with my son. Although his mom and I can't be together, we stay as good friends for him and for his future.

Hope you all learned an important lesson in my experience.
Again, I'm Allan, and this is my story...
