I was supposed to make this post yesterday but I was too tired after the whole event so I took a 12 hour break. Finally this is the report of yesterday's blockchain workshop targeted at corps members serving in Akwanga, Nasarawa state Nigeria

The blockchain/steem workshop for corps members was organised yesterday June 22nd at Bedge Bell 701 hotel, Akwanga. You can read more about the event planning here. We started at a 2:30pm with @joyce-okpobo as our anchor.

I was scared when I learned that Nigeria is playing in the world cup that same time we planned to have the event. That was an oversight on my part. But even at that I was so glad to see a turn out of 48 participants even when the world cup was ongoing. This shows how much people are ready to learn about the future of work that many could sacrificed the world cup to attend.

I gave the first talk - an introduction to blockchain, cryptocurrency, steem and steemit. It's surprising that a lot of people still do not know much about blockchain technology and cryptocurrency in Africa. So this is a wake up call to all of us to take up the task and educate people around us about blockchain and steem.

I explained a lot of stuffs from the frequently asked questions on steemit. I explained the concept of steemit and how it differs from traditional social media. I also made it clear to people that Steemit is not a get rich quick scheme, that on steemit you are rewarded for your content and not paid so no one is entitle to anything.

The second speaker was @Uche-nna who travelled 5 hours from The Minna end of Abuja to join us. He spoke on posting in general. He discussed the idea of decentralization, the concept of community policing and how to use different platforms liked Zappl, Dtube, Dlive, Utopian-io, Busy.org and steepshot.

Unfortunately, one of our guest speakers, @xpency, was unavoidably held up with some work that needed his urgent attention in Abuja.

@Jingis07 - the self made data analyst and contributor to Utopian-io took to the spotlight next to talk to the participants about contributing to open source projects through Utopian-io.

Some of them have working knowledge in one of the following and may decide to be a regular contributor.

@jingis07 started his talked with the quote

No one rewards you for mediocrity

He explained clearly how to contribute on Utopian and also talk about the need for quality and well documented contributions.

Then back on the stage again came @joyce-okpobo who talked about 'Building Relationships, Networks and Communities'.

Most people tend to forget that steemit is first a social media and the reward is just a bonus. Building relationships, creating networks and joining communities. @joyce-okpobo spent the thirty minutes she was allocated to pass this message to the participants. People can build these networks by joining the right discord, telegram and whatsapp groups. Interacting with the community through commenting and steemit.chat, also organizing/ attending meetups and other events in your local community.

As my last message to the participants, I talked about Pitching Your Dreams On The Steem Blockchain. I have come to believe that one can be anything and do anything on the Steem blockchain, and I'm going to make sure people get this message. I explained that Steemit is beyond the traditional blogging site that we have. Using people like @michaelcj, @bankofattat, @surfyogi, myself and many others, I explained to the participants on the numerous options open to them on the blockchain. All that is needed is passion, dedication and consistency.

some services people can offer on Steemit through steemgigs

Before we ended for the day @godsnana and @rankyb also shared their experience and some words of encouragement to our prospective steemians. And we also too a couple of photographs with the remaining participants as others were rushing to watch the Nigerian Match.

I am very grateful to @joyce-okpobo, @godsnana and @rankyb who took the stress to publicized the events among fellow corps members, lecturers at college. I'm super grateful to @uche-nna and @jingis07 who came all the way from Abuja to talk at this event. Also grateful to @xpency even though he couldn't meet up as planned, I totally understand with him and I'm sure in our future workshops he'll join us.

Thanks too to @wafrica and @steemjet communities. To the founders @surfyogi and @dimimp for supporting steem adoption projects.

Little by little,
we'll preach the message.
One by one,
Steem we'll get steem to everyone.

Sort:

It was a meaningful workshop because even till now some of the participants call and chat me up for guidance

Keep the good work, you will grow in no time.

so pro so clean i love this quote

NOBODY WILL REWARD YOU FOR MEDIOCIRITY

nice thats beautful!

we need more of these meetings educating the entire country and especially peopel who can invest Sp so you ca have a huge population of SP holkders who can upvote on important projects together etc

oh man imagine STeem as the Nigerian reserve Currency :D

We are working towards that now, that was why I decided to change the slogan we had before:

Blog, vote and earn.

As this slogan was targeted at people who only care to just come and cash out from the platform. Now I tell people,

Come pitch your dreams/passions on Steem blockchain and watch it blossom.

I have been here long enough to see people build their passions on the platform, we are starting vigorous campaign to get people to come online especially people with a mindset to invest in some Sp.

It is excellent that you are promoting the steemit platform in Nigeria. It can change the lives of many people, and you are the best proof of that. Keep going!

Thanks @marynet, I believe that for Steem to continue to rise, we all gateway role to play.

All the way, you guys are wonderful and I love you all.

Thanks for sharing @lordjames

Great job boss.
It can help people get through difficult times and with the decrease in value people can also invest in steem.
