Edusteem Project presents to you her first successful humanitarian meetup at Government Secondary School Mararaba, Nasarawa State -Nigeria

in #promo-steem6 years ago (edited)

We fought, we saw and we conquered. My heart is filled with gladness as my team and I are very fulfilled for the success we recovered in our humanitarian meetup (stage 1). It all looked impossible at the begining, especially after writting a post about this at the initial stage and for some hours nobody upvoted the post. I almost thought i was in the wrong place and community. But not very long the upvote started comming in and the post attracted about 134 upvotes and was gingered by the supports received from steemians.

We went further to submit a letter to the school we intended to visit notifying them of our intention. The news of our coming was welcomed by the Head teacher of GSS, Mararaba. I can recall him saying to me "i hope you will come on your proposed date", that you wont be like others that said they are coming and never did. It downed on me that i needed to make this happen after receiving approval for the humanitarian project/meetup.

A major challenge faced was finance. I kept thinking how we were going to accomplish this project because finance received was less than the budget for the project. I made this promise to my self "that even if i will have to use my salary to accomplish the project, i will make it happen" and @maryfavour one of the partners kept sending money (SBD'S) to support this project. My team and I are grateful that all the challenges faced never stopped us from realizing our dreams.

We had a lot to do considering the fact that it was the first of its kind - a humanitarian meetup with students and teachers. We presented note books and biros, produced t-shirts for edusteem project team, produced banner, rented projector, rented a public address system, light refreshment for teachers, etc.

students begging @suuny4glow pleading to come into the hall

We all went in @sunny4glows car carying all that is needed for the event. What caught my attention was when the Head Teacher and other teachers were selecting students that will attend the event and students were begging to be part of the events. We had wanted to reach every student in this stage but our limited resources didn't permit us.

For this stage we went with just 300 branded steem exercise books, 50 steem crested biros which is far below the total population of students in the school(over 2000 students). Though, we promised we would come back and present books and biros to the remaining students, which is dependent on upvotes and supports from all of us(steemians).

The program started with the students reciting the Nigerian National Anthem and Pledge with passion in a happy mood awaiting the full commencement of the events after which the Assitant Head Teacher gave the opening remark.

The event commenced fully with @sunny4glow giving an opening remark and telling the students and teachers present, briefly about the benefits on the steem blockchain, @eugenecr7 also explained further on how to use the steem blockchain and how it works.

@eugenecr7 talking to the students and teachers during the humanitarian meetup

Since it was already time for school dismisal, we had to attend to students not to bore them with much talks and allow them depart to the various destinations. We presented the steem branded books and biros to them.

The teachers also had a session alone with the edusteem team where we had more discussions about the steem blockchain and registered a few teachers. All were interested but asked how they can join us since we said they needed a good android phone and data. This was their major complain and as teachers most of them cannot afford a steemable phone, since getting good android phone will cost at least 35SBD's.

Sharing of drinks going on

The teachers were entertained with drinks and doughnuts as we continued with the event and @farida gave a powerful talk about her testimonies and success on steemit. She told them she is still in secondary school(high school) and has been able to pay her fees and that of her 3 younger siblings. It was so captivating because she spoke to teachers who are more like her teachers in school. The teachers were so captivated with her testimonies and all wanted to join us in the steem blockchain after her speech.

@Farida motivating teachers as she speaks

We didnt stop at that as @trendyevents also spoke on her achievements and how to interact on the steem blockchain to attract upvotes and followers.

We concluded the event with registration of newbies interested in joining the steem blockchain even though it seems there are slight issues with registrations for now. I heard some saying "please register me, i just can't wait to become a member."

The event came to a successful end as we all had great fun and the teachers asked us to come back soon for a follow up and reach the rest of the students that didn't get our educational materials.

I am so grateful to the edusteem team @eugenecr7, @maryfavour(who joined us from Serbia via live videos and calls to ensure today was successful), @trendyevents, @sunny4glow and @farida for their support towards the success of the first edusteem project/humanitarian meetup, you guys were awesome. The meetup was a bomb because of you all. ##Cheers!

Fantastic idea, bring the idea of steemit into the classroom, and encouraging the teachers also. It makes me so pleased to see that #promo-steem promoters are choosing to engage in voluntaryism. My pledge is that we will do all we can to bring investment into @steem-ambassador and endeavour to support initiatives like this, that not only spread the STEEM message, but also are focussed on voluntaryist activities that are changing communities.

My dear you have said it all. We will put more efforts and ensure we continue the good work of reaching the vulnerable and poor in our society. Thanks a bunch anarcotech
