Borneo Blockchain Summit 2018 - It Was A Success!!

When we were first informed that our Steemit Community in Kota Kinabalu will be involved in organising the first BLOCKCHAIN EVENT in Sabah, we were very excited and nervous at the same time. Most of us has never had any experience in organising an event of such magnitude before, especially when it involves international speakers.

Months became weeks, and weeks became days as we countdown to the day of the event, and most of us has anxiety and nervous attack. We were worried that months of preparation might proven to be futile if everything didn't work out as well as expected.

The day has finally arrived at last, as we anxiously departed from our home and arrived at the event venue around 7.00am. We quickly set up all the stuffs and equipments required for the event and then waited for the participants to come. By 8.00am, the participants started to arrive and after half an hour, the registration table was swarmed with people.

The honoured guest speaker of the day is the State Assistant Minister of Education and Innovation, YB Jenifer Lasimbang, and she mesmerises the audience with her lovely opening speech. Then it was the turn of the other speakers, Jason Chew a.k.a @buzzlightyear, Harpreet Singh, Simon Pang a.k.a @bitrocker2020 and Anthony Davie for the first half of the day before lunch break.The second period commenced with speeches from Pandu Sastrowardoyo, Luke Jones, Azlin Awang Chee and Chan Wei Chee.

They are masters in Blockchain Technology and Cryptocurrencies. Their talks was brief, only 30 minutes allowed per speaker, but the knowledge we garnered just by hearing their talks were invaluable. It is incredible to learn about their research, implementations and future expectations about Blockchain and Cryptos. Their foresight about Blockchain is about 5 to 10 years ahead of most of us, especially me. It's like learning about Blockchain and Cryptos all over again.

Finally, the first day of the event has finally ended around 5.30pm, and all of us who were involved in organising it sighed with great relief. We have learned a lot today in terms of organising an event. Its a learning curve for most of us, the first will surely be the hardest but it will be easier onwards, hopefully.

What makes the day even better is, so many people suddenly interested to know about Steemit once @bitrocker2020 done with his speech. The photographer that we hired to take videos and photos was so interested that he registered to join Steemit on the same day with the help of @bboyady, our SteemXP Manager. And an old acquaintance of mine who was among the audience seeked for my help to get registered on Steemit.

This event has been a real success since most of the participants came from all walk of life, and I was really surprised to see many senior citizens turn up for the event too. I'm not sure who they are, maybe they are businessmen or investors who wanted to know and learn more about Blockchain and Cryptocurrency. They all left the venue with smiles on their faces and theres a feel of satisfactions from them.

Lastly, I would like to thank @bitrocker2020, @danieldoughty, @veenang and @bboyady who has been working tirelessly to make the event a success. @alvinauh was an amazing MC, and it was really nice to finally meet @buzzlightyear, @aaronleang and @joannewong in person. Special thanks to @awesomianist for accepting our invitation to become one of the moderator, and just like his Steemit Username, he was awesome.

Not forgetting to all the volunteers who has been working behind the scenes, you guys are the best. And a big thank you to @nickychu for bringing loads of chocolates treats all the way from Labuan, the ladies appreciate it so much. LOL.

I am pretty sure another Blockchain Event will be organised next year based on the overwhelming response. If it happens, we will be more than ready this time around. Hopefully, the same team will still be around to help out. We were an awesome TEAM.
