You can buy Steem from the Steem dollars and power up with that Steem. So what's best depends on how much a Steem dollar is worth at the exchanges. Recently it was worth much more than one Dollar.
The issue isn't converting, it's just better and more useful in the long run to have steem power. For beginners, this what they should be concentrating on.
Yes, I completely agree. I just wanted to remark that when Steem dollars are traded for much more than 1 dollar you can get more Steem power via the 50/50 option, exchanging SBD to Steem and powering up. Not something beginners have to worry about but something to keep in mind. I appreciate your efforts to explain Steemit to beginners and to a French audience.
