Black Point Wildlife Drive
Black Point Wildlife Drive
Egrets, Herons, Spoonbills, Gators and more
The Black Point Wildlife Trail is a seven mile long self guided motor path through managed wetlands along the Indian River Lagoon in Merritt Island, Florida. The trail is part of the Merritt Island Wildlife Refuge. The water level in the various basins throughout the wetlands is managed with some containing a constant level while others are allowed to vary with the tides. Thus providing an ideal habitat for many water fowl, wading birds and other aquatic animals. The refuge is located with the Atlantic Migration flight way, making it a convenient stopover for migrating snowbirds.
There is a $10 fee per car to use the trail or you can use one of the various federal passes for access. It is well worth the fee during the winter for photography and bird watching.
These are some photos that I took in December along the trail.

Thank you so much!
Some really lovely shots here... egrets are such beautiful and elegant birds. I lived on a waterway when I lived in Texas, and we had all sorts of marvelous waders and similar types of birds. Where I live now (the Pacific Northwest) it's a whole different set.
Thank you for your comments! These birds are amazing to watch and photo! I'd love to see what birds you have there.
