On the Road with the Birds! | We Came, We Saw, We Conquered!
Yep, the Birds are still traveling!
We just spent 10 wonderful days with our daughter and her partner. (You know them as @mountainjewel.) They're building their first home!
When we arrived their home site looked like this! They're building a straw bale home which will be beautiful. Energy efficient, cool during the summer and warm during the winter. We knew the job would be tough, especially for two people! Meticulous, perfect measurements, angles and of course always level!
Just like the Echinacea...
they began!
We all worked very hard, day in and out. The weather was hot, humid and the days were long. An occasional rain provided much needed breaks! (We played banana-gram!)
Like the Butterflies, the flowers at @mountainjewel are beautiful

Of course, I cooked!
Yep, their gardens are beginning to produce a bounty of zucchini and cucumbers, beautiful tomatoes and plenty of lettuce. The daily menu included zucchini stir fry, much to everyone’s delight! Remember those Lemon Poppy seed bread, chocolate chip muffins, and chocolate chip cookie bars I shared with you? All were a hit!
Goumi berries, raspberries…
and thorn less blackberries were ready to be picked. Perhaps a snack?
The work progressed…
just as the flowers bloomed!
The Roses! Oh the Roses!
Heritage Roses…
from long ago! The fragrance, unbelievable!
We gave the summer kitchen…
a thorough spring cleaning! What a great place for summer cooking, canning and time spent with friends and family!
And then…
Veni, vidi, vicii!
They did it!
So now, we're off again! On the road!
A few healthy veggies...
and a Lilly to go!
We feel so blessed to have had this time with our children. Lots of hard work, laughter, tears and precious memories. Time well spent! They have a lot of work ahead but we’re so thankful we were able to be a part of the process... to help! On our way to see the grandson! Stay tuned, I’ll be sure to share. They have a great deal of work ahead, a big vision for a sustainable teaching homestead. We're proud of them. So much energy and enthusiasm, we too are excited to watch the progression. getting there! Ini doesn't want to set a "goal" or date due to weather and, you know, just stress of goal setting so playing the concrete pour by ear.. hopefully it will come sooner rather than later. working slowly and steadily on it each day. Love you! so glad you're still enjoying the veggies and feeding them to our little nephew xoxo

Thank you @blueeyes8960! I will certainly share when they finish! They have a long road ahead, but their vision is pretty neat. This home will be ultra energy efficient with 24" thick walls! They need it with the heat and humidity in the Ozarks. Straw bale homes can be really neat!
