Two sides of the coin

in #portrait5 years ago

Are you complaining? In despair? Depressed? Actually not so bad? Good. It means you are at least still around. Look, no one said anything about that this will be easy. Changing the world is always a whole process of back and forth. Pushing forward and setbacks. Highs, lows and complete fucking bottom. However, if you are reading this, you are still here and it means exactly what I hoped for. You are hooked to the other side of the coin too - us, human beings of Steem, the community.

We can trade coins, but are you willing to trade friendships, the most awesome projects, ideas and knowledge shared and learned here? Should I panic for all the time I’ve invested in Steem and the fact that my tiny, collected stake is not even a half of it in dollars right now?

No. In fact it is pretty chill here. It has been pretty chill ever since I got here with no expectations other than oh it seems like a place of awesome people. I’ve been wishing to find something like this for a long, long time. Where else you will be able to observe people actually sharing parts of their worlds that usually remain hidden? Where else you can observe human behavior in full spectrum as if you would look at it through magnifying glass? Where else you can think of something, get together and work towards accomplishing things with other people from all around the world with different skills and expertise? How freaking cool is this thing?

So bear got us. Does it keep us from doing what we are here to do? Is it stopping us from earning Steem? Not really. Simply stop looking at the price in dollars or even better stop looking at Steem as something that brings you money if you can’t handle the market fluctuations. Keep doing what you were going to do anyway and I really hope to see you around on the chain both through highs and lows ^^

Song of the day: Birthday Massacre - The Other Side

Sort:

I'm glad to be able to say my inactivity on Steem has nothing to do with the price and more to do with being busy elsewhere. Whaleshares community has sucked all my time the last few weeks, plus planning a surprise end-of-year gift for my boss, and getting my book ready for publishing... All in all I'm proud of how much "RL" stuff I'm getting done, hehe.

Oooh and Birthday Massacre! I'd forgotten about them.

It is understandable that people have lives and they get involved in different projects too, hehe

However I've noticed that it's been a lot more silent lately and also in comparison with last year around this time. Price was so much different then too and even tho it was Christmas season etc, some people still seemed a lot more active. I guess it is better not to compare, but hopefully people are not losing hope and still believe in future of this thing.

Yeah BM are pretty awesome, aren't they? :)

Although price plays a considerable role, many of the cool people here started disappearing long before Steem plummeted. So, there must be other factors involved as well. I think the next few months will be decisive for the future of this thing :)

Everything is about patience ^^ and it's ok to take breaks. Also I understand people finding more useful things to do with their time, some ex Steemians I talked to realized they don't enjoy blogging as much as they though. (They actually quit before the prices dropped) :)
There are surprisingly a lot of Steemians still active tho :D
!tip

Funny thing about breaks, I don't think I've taken a longer break than a week from Steem since I joined. Even when I was away it was Steem related xD I guess I can officially sign up for Steem addict group, lol

The thing about Steem, it is not really just one thing. With apps on a rise, Steem is changing away from just blogging platform. Steemit could be described as blogging platform, but there are many other platforms based on top of Steem blockchain now.

We have a really amazing community of people. Those who are active now, they are the real deal and we all should take a good look at them and take notes. Because once the Bulls go running, all the other people will come back and they probably are not the true believers of this decentralized revolution, heck they most likekly don't even understand it at all. They will come back because of the price and hype most likely.

As we were talking the other day, there are so many other values here than the coin itself. Relationships and the industry learning are very high on my list of things I value that can't be bought. I am hoping to buy in more when I can because stake is still an important part of the community building, regardless of fiat equivalent values. Those that are here now are earning some decent vests :)

It 'amazes' me that some people never see the community as something valuable. It is just sad. But different people, different goals and values in life I guess.

If I had something to buy with I would too :)

Don't smiles count as currency?

Ahaha! :)

@m31 for president!! What a discourse! Better than William Wallace in Braveheart... 😉👍

Thanks, but yea no, no, no :D

That was the most positive view about the fall of steem price, I have read so far!
And the most encouraging one :)

I'm still here (after almost a year), steemit became part of my daily life. I'm here to meet new people and learn some stuff, money is not my priority here. There is a lot of people who stopped doing this, because they came here for the quick money, I have nothing against them but you can clearly see who is here for fun, improving their work and not just for money.

Doesn't one year seem like forever already in Steem time, haha. I remember celebrating my one year in summer and it just felt like so much happens here in one year. Always changing, bustling environment. Feels like we've been battling this bear market for forever now too. Maybe people just feel tired? Of course, you are right and there are also many who were here for short term profit and maybe it is a good riddance?

You need to show off that pretty face of your more often!!!!

Nice song choice. The odd time signature sections remind me of Tool. Thanks for the lead on a new group.
