Authority has a Shadow and its Name is Terrorism

in #politics6 years ago

I’ve lost count how many times school shootings have happened. But yet again we hear some politicians say “never again”. Then there are those who focus on gun control thinking that if only cops and military have guns, then there would be no more violence. The only way there will be no more violence is when all people find some modicum of contentment. The opposite of contentment is ambition, and ambition is what authority has in abundance.

When authority defines terrorism, it draws imaginary boundaries that allow its own use of violence, but punish all other forms of unauthorized violence. Terrorism is a brand name. However, this model is not what nature intended; for every action comes an equal and opposite reaction. I would hazard a guess that the 19 year old in Florida who shot up a school in Parkland, was violated in some way.

The accusation that he had “mental issues” works as deflection against looking too closely at the roots of the real causes. It’s works by the narrowing down the material causes to minimize consideration of those violations of boundary that authority typically instigates. Yes, what that kid did was wrong, but it didn’t happen in isolation to everything else.

Some people cope differently. This kid apparently had issues with authority, but didn’t know how to cope. The same kid back in the 60’s would have been shipped off to Vietnam and would probably have become a war hero. The same inner rage of violation gets converted by the state to eliminate its political enemies. Then when they came home, it was discovered they couldn’t integrate back into society. So authority did what it could to minimize expenses at the VA, hoping more soldiers commit suicide. Two problems solved, one stone.

What this issue is really about is respecting boundaries. It’s interesting to note that as Jupiter entered tropical Scorpio that the #metoo hastag started to dredge up all the violations of boundaries (particularly sexual boundaries) in the past by important authority figures such as Harvey Weinstein. This period is about testing how much one can get away with, how far you can push, before there’s a backlash. Those who need this lesson the most are the least content.

This violation of boundary beyond personal consent is what decentralization technology is about to fix. The physical manifestation of decentralization is the creation of space. What does authority say we should do? Unify. Become one giant family. Trump said these exact words earlier today. It’s the exact opposite of what is needed. Bullies have the hardest time learning how to give others space to breathe.

The principles of voluntarism would go a long way towards solving these issues, but authority won't adopt this willingly because it requires relinquishing power.
