Why A Vote For Trump, Was Not About Racism

in #politics8 years ago

Our Nation is dealing with a weak job market and decreasing wages, and never ending wars. Many jobs were lost after the recession, small businesses failed, and a record number of people lost their homes  saving and retirement. Our faith in government is at all time lows.  As we watch wages go down, the middle class disappear and expenses go up it is offensive to be considered selfish or racist if you are opposed to taking on other countries’ refugees or migrants.  Nor is it careless to not want to take on new wars.  Please do not assume someone else is paying for "it".  Or that it is “Free”.   With the passing of ACA, some people’s premiums doubled and deductibles tripled, mostly the middle class and self-employed. Politicians who are promising free college, offering to take in the world's poor, asking to support more wars, provide foreign aid, increase military spending, cut taxes, while we ignore the Federal Deficit, are not facing the reality.  We are not properly caring for veterans, our infrastructure is in poor shape, our schools are failing, our prisons are full, we do little to deal with mental health issues, and  there are never ending new fees, taxes, higher costs of utilities.  We have a record number of people on unemployment, welfare, and SSI, and simply not participating in the work force.  We almost got a break in gas prices, and the state rushed in and passed new taxes on gas. (WA) If you don't think you are paying for all of this, ask yourself if you think life in the USA is improving? Are we improving schools, lifting up the poor, ensuring healthcare access, helping the mentally ill, rehabilitating our criminals, taking care of our roads and bridges, treating our veterans like the heroes? Is your local school asking for more levies, are our teachers spending their own money to teach? How arrogant to be meddling in the affairs of other Nations, when we are not keeping up with our own social issues. It is a great ideal to want to help the world's poor, repressed, etc., but in reality if you can't and don't take care of yourself and your family (Nation) first there  will soon be nothing to give.  Maybe we aren’t selfish and racist, maybe we are tired and worried about the future.  WE ARE ALL PAYING.  How much more can you afford?

I did not vote for Trump and I think he is a foul man. But he is not a racist.

He said some things about Mexicans. "Mexican" is not a race.
He said some things about Muslims. "Muslim" is not a race.

Even if they were, racism is not so much what you say, but what you do, and Trump has plowed large money into civil rights organizations, programs for inner city kids, women's programs, a score of things. Granted, he made that money profiting off the misery of gambling and alcohol addicts, which is why I don't support him, but they are not the actions of a racist.

Mexican is a nationality.
Muslim is a religion.
are they both on the list of proscribed words that must never be used?

Only certain people, based on their political beliefs, can use them. For anyone else they are automatic thought crimes... I mean hate crimes.

I think you were right the first time.

According to liberal logic (LOL), misuse of difference identifiers can be considered a thought crime and/or a hate crime depending on current trends in champion protected classes, the harm it can do to a conservative or libertarians image, and chance that you crime can make a liberal cry - and throw a tantrum.

I didn't vote for Trump either, but nor did I vote for Hillary. I just am surprised how easily people are lead to use hateful words. (both sides)

Yeah, I've voted Libertarian for 40 years and people call me names all the time.
"Hi, I want us all to be free!"
"What!? You racist!"

I totally relate. The only party I have ever given money to was the Libertarian Party.

You know with all the talk lately, maybe Steemit can solve some of those issues if you really think about it? What if for an average person that works on wages, their wages are paid to them in Steem. Few seconds and the payment is there and with smartphones now, you could pay groceries and your bills. For businesses hiring employees, since they look at Facebook accounts now they could look at their Steemit account and see the financial part of a potential employee. We are able to expand on top of this platform and possibly create tax proposals or what have you. I think generally what @dantheman might be getting at but I may be wrong.

Interesting take! Very interesting.

Did you vote FOR Trump or AGAINST his opponent?

I voted for Gary Johnson. I would have never voted for Hillary. So, any vote I put in was a vote against Hillary.
