Australian politician and controversial persona to boot, Pauline Hanson has made a statement that is sure to spark a debate.
Should autistic children be given special attention to assist they unique needs, or should they remain in the mainstream classes?
Whilst it may seem harsh to remove autistic children from their mainstream peers, we must not succumb to politically correct dogma and live in a delusional world, in which we believe that there are no discernible differences between autistic and non-autistic children.
Many autistic children often thrive when they are given the specific attention that they deserve, but for some, the thought of admitting any differences between us, no matter how blatant, is akin to heresy.

The autistic spectrum is big and diverse. Each child should be treated individually and their specific needs catered for. Some find it so hard to be in large groups and really suffer trying to understand the rules and nuances of body language. I have taught many autistic children and see the visibly relax when they are alone or in a 1:1 situation. Others learn to cope in mainstream. We must assess each child and provide a variety of learning environments for the varied needs of autism
Precisely, a 'one size fits all' approach rarely ever works.
