Why is Trump the nominee before Hillary Clinton.

May 5, 2016
With Donald J. Trump now the Republican nominee or presumptive nominee. People are asking why is Trump the presumptive nominee and not Hillary Clinton. Trump had 17 candidates to fight against and Hillary only 2. Many politcal commentators and the media view the Republican party has run by insiders and a party establishment. The view is that since Republicans are more close to corporations and are advocates for the wealthy that they are corrupt in their nominating process. Republicans get more scrutiny maybe because of their conservative views and how they use it to promote themselves. The presumptive nomination of Donald Trump highlights the nominating process of both parties. They both have rules that are designed to favor control over the nomination by the parties' establishment. Donald Trumps' candidacy has changed the process so to speak. His media popularity or infamy has created public scrutiny for this process where in the past most voters were ignorant or didn't care about the primaries. In the past the party establishment picked their candidate without much scrutiny. Donald Trump has made the primaries into a popular election. The rules didn't effect him because of the massive support he has. The continued presence of the other candidates, Cruz and Kasich, who continued relying on the primary rules gave media attention to the system the political parties use for the primaries. Hillary clinton has used the Democratic primary rules to her advantage. So why is Trump already the nominee and not Clinton? Although both parties have systems favoring the establishment, the Democratic party, the populist party, has a very corrupt primary system. Voters really only suggest who the candidate will be, the superdelegates are the ones who really decide who will be the Democratic candidate. What are delegates? Delegates are kind of like representatives of the voters or their districts but they can change their views by the time of the convention but they are under pressure from voters of their district to vote the way their district voted on primary day. Both Republicans and Democrats have delegates but only Democrats also have super delegates. What are super delegates? Super delegates are important people like politicians and other party insiders who act has delegates. The super delegates are the Democratic establishment. Hillary Clinton is winning the popular vote but not by much against Bernie Sanders. On delegates Bernie is competitive and if he wins California he could beat her but Hillary has almost all the super delegates. The establishment wants Hillary to win and have presumptively nominated her already. Bernie Sanders believes he has a chance since super delegates can change their minds before the convention. Hillary hasn't been named in the media the nominee because Bernie won't withdraw. Bernie is fighting a corrupt system.

Sort:

You statement " His media popularity", should it actually be "his popularity thanks to the media"? If any other candidate on either side would have gotten as much attention by the media as Trump has received, things could have been different. But the media was too concern about ratings to provide equal time to all candidates. The media has done with Trump what the radio do with songs that are overplayed. Even if you hate it at first, after you have heard it so many times, you end up dancing to the tune.

I agree but Trump does understand his audience and how to talk to them. The media has used his popularity for ratings.

That's one long post. The simple answer is that the Republican opponents all quit and Bernie hasn't.
