Future of liberalism

in #politics6 years ago

One can say that globalism is mainly based on liberalism’s global dimension. Liberalism became the most vital part of the “End of History” atmosphere developed by intellectuals as Francis Fukuyama as the Cold War was ending and a new era was approaching. However, the history did not end and instead it took a turn- pointing towards the direction where the liberal storytelling has been perceived as less and less inspirational. So, is the world reaching the end of liberalism? Because of a higher resistance towards immigration and a higher support for authoritarian politics?

According to Harari, events as Brexit and election of Donald Trump have been perceived by many liberals not only as the end of history but also as the end of human civilization itself. Through 20th century, liberal storytelling has survived many challenges since majority of people appreciate freedom and peace and reject wars and gulags. But while liberalism came to dominate the global development its current storytelling is challenged by trends as” Trumpism” in the sense of nationalism and populism which are not only ignoring climate problems but also do not offer meaningful answers on effects of AI, algorithms and automatization on the labour market.
