RE: What the protests in France are really about: The media tell us nothing of the truth!

in #politics6 years ago

They are about the french government having taken too many reforms that take from the poor to give to the richest in this country.

Well, that's exactly what a German article about the issue I read yesterday wrote:

You may understand that I stopped reading yours at this point.

lol.. i never saw any of this in the UK media.. it only mentioned fuel hikes!

You are referring to yourself as Eco-Alex and you're questioning fuel tax hikes?
I'm just trying to understand. ;)

i totally disagree with any tax as a solution to climate change.. what a joke.. what is needed is radical change in behaviour, lifestyle, consumption.. and basically everything from the ground up.. anyone who thinks paying more money to the State will help the situation is sorely mistaken!

Unfortunately, we are not going to change human behavior unless the cost of goods reflect the cost of the environmental damage that they cause through their construction and use. At this point, many products (such as oil) do not reflect this. As a result, those who produce oil and oil-based products are not paying the true cost, nor are consumers paying the true cost. Something like a carbon tax, if done right (which I know is hard given our politicians), can address this issue. Such a tax could then be used to further counteract climate change, such as by incentivizing cleaner choices, or by supporting related research.

Most of the experts agree that such a tax will have to be part of any solution to climate change. To deny their expertise is equivalent to denying the expertise of the scientists who study climate change.

I agree that our politicians are unlikely to do the right thing and that businesses will do everything possible to game the regulations. As consumers and citizens we need to hold those businesses and our politicians accountable. Unfortunately, at least in the U.S. the Republican party and Fox News has succeeded in convincing a large number of citizens that climate change is fake by mounting a continuous disinformation campaign. Individuals in both organizations should be shut down and jailed for what they are doing. Alas, this is the U.S., where those with lots of money rule--unless they happen to piss off others with more money.

Radical change. In people's behaviour. What a joke. (I'm just sticking to your own words.)
I hoped for that 18-22 years ago too, being 18-22 years old back then.
What has happened since?
Increase of car traffic.
Increase of flights.
Increase of sea cruises (also in the size of the ships).
Increase of use of plastics.
Increase of energy use.
Logistics has largely shifted from train to trucks or other fuel motor vehicles.
We have a generation of twens who don't question taking a car for each few 100 meters, a plane for each inter-European travel and living as vegans which means: with food from anywhere in the world and (partially) as processed as food never was before. And the majority of the elders does not question both first points and the third one only rarely.

I don't disagree on the need of visions completely but you are talking about people who have not grown up in a world of limited ressources, majority of rules and interpersonal dependence. Those people don't care about society's future needs and don't want to be educated either.

Yup! It may take a system failure or natural disaster to bring on the changes we need to see!

Oh! You seem to have a second earth growing in the backyard of your house then and the real ecologists seem to have to worship you for that reason.

Not sure what u mean, but anyways i dont believe taxes are any kind of solution to our global problems. Sustainability and change is the need of the day. Have to go now, im leaving for a week retreat in an offgrid sustainable ashram

Yeah please stay off the internet as long as you can keeping your unsustainable thoughts to yourself.
As I said before: modern society is majored by individuals just or mainly thinking of themselves. You are no exception.
What a pity.
