Who will build the roads? ANSWER: If you get out of our way we will!

in #politics8 years ago (edited)

I think anyone who has discussed free market, Libertarian, Anarcho-Capitalistic, ideas has encountered the "Who will build the roads?" strawman attack. If you haven't then you are likely pretty new to discussing these things. If so, Welcome, glad you are here. #freemarket #libertarian #anarchocapitalism #anarchy #ancap #politics #money #steemit #steem #anarchism

(From what I read putting those tags there might be a smart idea)

I believe steemit is proving what many people have said. We can distribute and share wealth with each other without need of a government. We cut out the middleman so cut out the bureaucratic waste that ANY task the government does must have.

I can pay someone to build a road to my house. That person receives my money, pays his workers and does the job.

Alternatively, I could pay the federal government, who will pay the politicians who discuss about the roads, and the people sitting behind desks in their offices that support them, and then IF they actually allow bids whatever funds remain might get paid to a guy to build the road, who will then go out and pay his workers.

So anytime I see someone saying "the government should do X" I quickly say "hell, no! Pay someone to do it directly and you'll get the job done for less and likely better. It also likely would be done quicker."

So the argument then comes up to... Well what about big roads and highways?

You could pay a person so he/she and his/her workers receive a payment on a regular basis from a fund to extend, and maintain the roads. You've just cut out the middle man and are accomplishing the same job.

When you ask the government to do something you are immediately asking them to NOT spend money effectively.

The governments are good at two things that I've seen: waste, and giving people (like you) the power to force other people to do what they want.

I can't tell you a working solution to government. I believe human nature corrupts any form of government or organization over time.

If there were a solution I believe it'd involve equal education ACCESS (doesn't mean you have to use it) to all, with reason/logic taught at an early age right along with math and reading so that while we are still emotional we at least don't let emotion (fear, anger, etc) rule our decisions and make us easy targets for manipulation. Furthermore, there would need to be FREE and UNCENSORED access to ALL information. No such thing as classified, or top secret. How can you make a non-manipulated informed decision if you do not have access to all of the information that is relevant to such a decision?

Do you support steemit CEO's decision to ask help from police and FBI?
https://steemit.com/steemit/@steemitblog/important-security-announcement-steemit-ceo-ned-scott
"We have reported the hack to police and other cyber crime authorities, including the FBI."

It is his choice to make. Consequences that may come from such a choice are his as well. Not knowing how that request went, and not knowing the details I don't have an opinion on it.

I believe it could be done without FBI help if the climate were different. Simply because I believe we can and should do things without government assistance does not mean the existing government will LET us do those things.

So if you are attempting to imply something. Let me guess and I'll try to guess based about my ASSUMPTION as to a possible motivation for your question. (I could easily be wrong).

I do believe private contractors could assist with this. As the steps they'd likely need to take are likely deemed illegal by the government's laws this does not mean a system without the government could not do the same thing. Preferring things would be one way does not mean people are stupid and will ignore the law as it is currently written. In addition, because something is a law does not mean it is immediately moral or ethical.
