From slavery to taxation

Anyone who has ever lived with a libertarian or has read about libertarian ideas has surely heard that "taxation is theft." But there is a phrase even stronger than this, and technically even more accurate. It is the phrase "taxation is slavery". This is what I will defend here in this post.

Well, it's easy to argue that taxation is theft. After all, everything that belongs to you and somebody takes it away from you by force against your will, based only on violence is by definition a robbery. Of course, you can try to justify this act in various ways such as "I'm going to make good use of your money", "I know how to use your money for nobler causes than you would use it", "your money will have a social function" etc ... But still obviously the act of taking something that belongs to you against your will will always remain a robbery.

But taxation is not only theft, it is more than that, it is slavery. Because theft is something casual, uncertain, sporadic, a fatality and not a certainty. You can avoid theft by avoiding passing again in the street where the theft happened for example. Or you can avoid walking on the streets with a watch and cell phone, etc ... Also if you were robbed you have the right to go to the police and ask them to try to give your property back to you.

But taxation is not like that. It is not sporadic and casual, but it is a constancy in our lives. You already work knowing that the fruit of your work will be plundered. Besides, you can not get away from it, you're "tied" in this plot without being free to run away from it.

So my friends, it's sad but it's the bare truth. Taxation is theft, yes, but more than that, it has characteristics very close to true modern slavery. Slavery in the old molds seems to be "over," for we no longer accept it. But in practice it has only become more sophisticated, and today it reveals itself in the form of taxation.
