Are nation states becoming AI?

The United States of AI?

As technology advances and AI becomes more ubiquitious, will the processes required to run a government someday be outsourced to AI? Artificial intelligence theoretically could become the most oppressive dictatorship in history as it can micromanage all aspects of our lives using big data analytics. As data becomes more open, as privacy is decreased, the AI could have more access to data or in specific the learning algorithms would become more effective with greater quantity and quality of data.

  • What will the role of nations states be if there is a sudden AI breakthrough in the near future?
  • Is there a limit to the human desire to micromanage the lives of other humans?
  • Is there a limit to how intrusive, how oppressive, or how efficient AI could be in the ultimate authoritarian nightmare scenario?
  • How might law enforcement use AI?

What could it be like to be governed entirely by AI?

I think a big part of blockchains popularity is coming from understanding that our data are misused in 'free' social media of the first generation. We actually don't know how much we're already under AI management.

Also, transhumanists making more sense here when they talking about human upgrades like cyborgs and especially neural prostheses. To fight efficient artificial dictatorship we will need artificial efficiency on our side.

The biggest picture: are you sure people are such a blessing for everything alive that the end of our rule on this planet will be a bad scenario?

Considering the possible sequences of events after the scenario of a.i. ruling the planet.. I think it could lead to many great things for life on earth. That is a possible outcome.

Thought provoking ...
Personally, I don't think there are limits for those that want to control. There are limits of control that a society will tolerate, I believe we are very close to that limit.

I believe that an AI would just be more efficient in that control, but certainly not any more oppressive than humans are. Torture or death by AI would be no worse than torture or death by a human.

Total control by AI might actually be more humane, but then again, a super AI, after learning, might decide to reduce the number of humans to a minimalist population as technicians to maintain the AI.

Good questions you ask. We cannot know until this "breakthrough" happens.

btw think you might find this interesting.

Yes I do believe you are starting to see the end of the nation-state. There will always be borders yet I feel that, down the road, national borders will be akin to state borders. They exists and you enter a new government arena but, at the end of the day, they mean little. It is the same with country borders. Does it really matter when you drive from one county to another. Most does we are not even aware of it.

Globalism is here to stay. That cannot be argued. Many want to turn the clock back but it is the economic model we live under. Technological, which known no geographic boundaries also is spreading. Most people who use Opera are not aware that it is owned, now, by a Chinese company. Not only that, should they care (if you believe in the spying on your browser history than you should except for the fact that all do this anyway).

A good topic to discuss.

Maybe we can have Robots to produce everything for us, while we just enjoy life. A world where there would be abundance of everything, a post-scarcity world!

Yes true .. Ai tech can only be good if it has limited useage . Sadly Ai can cause a whole lot of societal problems as it's vastly vastly different from a robot !! Read about Ai and how it can cause havoc is scary .... read about " singularity "

There is already a breakthrough in AI but they don't talk about it. The elite posses technology that is far advanced than what the general population can access/see. About 20 years ahead of what we can see/hear/read.
Good post tho!

Yes what a great point . I read somewhere that USA ( read CIA ) have technology that is way ahead of what we have today as you say . Ask any elite Hollywood director .. and look back at movies of 20 years ago . Most things or technologies in those movies that were talked about are here .. if in doubt ask Spielberg !!!.

Exactly. And the thing is that there is no science fiction. It's science fact, we just have to wait x number of years till we get to use it :) Also they show truths about the world in movies so we disregard it while thinking about real life. Ex. oh I seen this in a movie it's certainly not happening in the world. Modern brainwashing.

This is the Best post av seen today . I love to read each and every post of yours. Sometimes I don'rt get time to read the full content but I make sure that whenever I am free I read the whole thing. Thanks for sharing...
