Why all libertarians and freedom loving people should support the Catalonian independence referendum

I know the motives are nationalistic and thus not something libertarians should support since nationalism often goes hand in hand with oppressive regimes. But playing a poker hand well can mean you win it even though you might not have the best cards! The same goes for the Catalonians. What does the world see? Authoritarianism on full display from the Spanish government.

This is what we see when you defy the autocratic regime which rule every country on earth. Freedom is an illusion! We should thanks the Catalonians for showing the rest of the world that even a respected country such as Spain takes excessive force into use when being challenged.

We might have a nationalistic movement which is not something libertarians usually embrace, but when seeing what they are up against there’s no doubt about who are lesser evil and who we should support in their fight for freedom!

Maybe someday into the future its libertarians who want to make a society free of an ever expanding bureaucratic government and then we can show our support for the Catalonians today, maybe one day it’s us who will take on the authoritarian governments in our fight for freedom, so remember we can never support the authoritarian governments when the beat innocents people until the bleed as sadly seen today in Catalonia!
