Luis Almagro said that the election of the Constituent Assembly in Venezuela "was a failure" and accused the regime of "massacring the people"

Sunday's election day to form a National Constituent Assembly in Venezuela was a "tremendous failure," Luis Almagro, secretary general of the Organization of American States (OAS), said Monday that his office does not recognize those results.

"Yesterday the repressive forces massacred the people of Venezuela, 16 people including minors were murdered in different protests in the hours that the fraudulent processes of the National Constituent Assembly took place. The repression against the people during the day was the most extreme surpassing the standards since the protests began last April, "he said.

He added that it is clear that the Venezuelan government is trying to "disguise" the reality of what was a "tremendous failure".

He noted that the figure of 8.089 320 thousand votes announced by Tibisay Lucena left no doubt about the total illegitimacy of the process and the treacherous manipulation of the electoral system and its results.

He reiterated that such processes is not legitimate and does not have the support of Venezuelans "the influx of voters was minimal and did not reflect at any time that there was an electoral batch and much less a civic party."

He affirmed that the process is totally null given that the election of the National Constituent Assembly was carried out by annihilating the basic principles of transparency neutrality and universality that should characterize free and reliable elections.

Therefore, he added, "the OAS General Secretariat does not know the entire fraudulent process."

In addition, he noted in his note, the Venezuelan electoral court "has lost all vestige of legitimacy."

Almagro also blamed the government for the loss of human lives during the day. "It was a day of mourning for Venezuela. It was a day of violence and death.
