Polder

in #polder8 years ago

Part of the north-east cost of Nederland. A polder close to Dollard bay, photo taken from the third dike. The land low and flat. Cattle and farmland everywhere around, in the distance neighbouring country Germany.

While there is turmoil all around, this is one of the places where I like to go to. Away from the smalltown I live in. Especially on a bright and sunny day like this. Taking my bicycle and go for a ride, it's almost around the corner.

Just to be in the here and now for a while, before returning to the hectic of the rest again.

Pretty, but so empty. I can bring you some trees from Twente, if you want.

We have woods but not really here. Like that too. Yet here, at this location, I think the beauty is of a different kind.

One thing about Oldambt is that it has a wide variety in landscape types. Except mountains that is, of course. :-)

If it were possible to create a mountain with support from Twente. That would be great :-)

We don't have any of our own, really. Highest is the Tankenberg, at 85 meters, and you can't have that one. The second photo in the Wikipedia article is mine, he said proudly.

Then I guess we have to build our own.

Nice view there. :-)

Thank you for posting @oaldamster.

Lovely descriptive writing regarding a special place. Appreciate you taking Steemit there with you by way of words.

Wishing you all the best. Abientotlater.

It is my pleasure to do so @bleujay.

This is really a poetic part of the region where I live, and I'm glad I can share it this way with you and others from all over the world.

All the best in return.

Abientotlater!

That is so remarkably flat. Here in Scotland there are no such views. Everywhere is a hill or a mountain!

There is flatness all around. Climbing a dike is the closest to a mountain experience one get here.

There is one place registered as a mountain in the province of Groningen. Its top is, hold on to something now, or better sit down, 14 meter above sea level! Hahaha.

It seems that some people visiting our region get some kind of wideness dizzy feeling.

Do not know if that is for real, but one can see quite far in the distance here in the flatlands.

Hehe, i bet I would!! It's a beautiful country. I would like to see more of it!

You are welcome! :-)

Very peaceful... reminds me of certain parts of coastal Denmark-- also very flat and open, and only used for grazing cattle.

It is indeed and there is this part nearby that has a lot of seals on the shore. It is great to have a walk around there and just look at those beautifull creatures for a while. One of my favorite places to just be.
