RE: Poker Strategy 101: Don't Play So Many Hands

in #poker7 years ago (edited)

Nice post, are we talking poker on Steemit? Wnere can I play this? Poker's most important rule is position.
If you are out of position you should be playing a much tighter range then in position relatively. If playing heads up you could almost play all hands in position and 60+ % out of position.

Also I suggest waiting for fully decentralised poker coming up and not to ever play at websites like pokerstars. This is the future and very exciting,

Soon with decentralised poker rake will be lower and you can stand a chance of winning if you are half decent at it.

Best advise I would give is, play for fun and don't see it as something that will make you rich anytime soon.
Dare I say it, unless you are an incredible talent and a perfect fit for this game (incredibly tough mental game) I suggest to stay away from poker.

It is an addictive game incredibly fun but very time consuming. I know many people whose social lifes got destroyed because they thought they were good at poker. I spent waaaay to much time on it.

Trust me chances are 90%+ that you are not as good as you think you are.

The problem is that you can run good for a very long time thinking you are good since all the money moves into your pocket.
This can happen and pay attention to this for weeks/ months people have known to run better than otheres or be more lucky for thousands and thousands of hands,
Which basically means they get more then their fair share, in maths they call this variance.
I made many final tables but if you are just unlucky to always then get the bad end of the stick it is just bad luck.
In tournaments variance is a huge factor, you could play hundreds of tournaments without winning even if you are a good player.

As a new player only one conclusion will be made when running good:"I must be bloody good at this "
So next step will be to try some higher stakes and then a bit higher.

Until the inevitable luckstream stops (variance again) and trust me it will stop! For moet of us running good generally lasts a few thousand hands at most.

There you are at the higher stakes where players are ten fold better, now you end up running bad eventually. Cards you get are shit, everything you do fails.
You get agitated, might lose a few big pots.... until tilt hits.
You try some higher stakes even surely u can't be this unlucky.
There is only 1 outcome to this, going broke.

Hundreds if thousand of players are dealing with the above and I think posting on Steemit is more rewarding and might actually make you richer long term 😬

Sorry for the hijack of your post, just my 2 cents
