Want to beat your friends at the pokertable?
Dear Steemers,
If you have an interest in cryptocurrencies I think you are bound to have an interest for poker as well as both playing fields have a lot in common.
There is a reason why poker is the number 1 card game!
I have been playing poker for about 8 years now, over 1 million hands played and for me it is an incredible exciting game once you know what the intricacies of the game are. Whether you are playing for fun or professionally.
Is poker gambling or a game of strategy?
Well just like crypto's if you have no idea what you are doing and just bet on a random horse chances are you are indeed gambling.
Studying and playing poker has taught me some important economic lifelessons. That also holds up in the cryptoworld.
I will be discussing two different types of Poker games that are most popular till this day.
No limit holdem poker cash games and no limit holdem tourneys.
So before I start explaining the basics of poker the most important concept of playing poker without having to ever go broke is using proper bankroll management. If you have 100$ to add to your pokeraccount you probably should only be playing tourneys of around 2$ or less depending on your skill level.
When your bankroll (money on your account) decreases due to playing bad or running bad (cards just don't seem to hit) you can drop to lower level tournaments as low as 50 cent or even lower, this way your money will last your forever and you don't have to worry about your bankroll but focus purely on becoming a better poker player. Stepping up or down the ladder as you improve or lose money,
Bankroll management holds true for every aspect of your life in terms of whether you are contemplating buying that new television set or planning a new holiday. If you haven't got the bankroll choose something cheaper and feel comfortable.
Like pilots often say when they have to make a fuel decision to a particular difficult destination with thunderstorms etc.: "I get payed to be comfortable".
The decision to use bankroll mangement decreases risks of going broke and is from my point of view most important!
Most people will go broke as they can't understand how unlucky they are and therefore try there luck at higher stakes as surely they can't be unlucky all the time.
This is the wrong way about poker as things can go bad and if you think it can't possibly go worse it probably will.
You p probably start to see the similarities between investing in crypto and the game of poker.
If you are capable to adhere to bankroll managent which on paper looks very easy, you will do better than most poker players.
The difficulty of keeping bankroll management is that poker just like crypto is an emotional rollercoaster if you don't know what to expect or never seen particular aspects of poker your emotions will get the better of you and you will go broke or in terms of crypto will sell in panic.
I stop here as I am catching a flight to Ibiza for the holidays, if anyone is interested to hear/ learn more drop me a reply
