For Valentine's Day—Meditations on Love
What is there, really, other than Love? And how profoundly do we suffer when we stray from or try to withhold it. We find that the Love we hold back, in turn, holds us back—since, at the root of all unhappiness, is a crisis of Love: for ourselves, of others, or the Divine.
Happy Valentine's Day, to all who love: other people, animals, words, beauty, nations, nature, virtue, knowledge, dreams, mysteries...
Below, are 20 aphorisms of mine, reflecting on this 'many-splendored thing':
Think of existence as a great love story; every shy creature or timid truth wants to be courted.
If love were not always a step ahead, how would it ensure we kept up the chase?
We only ever love once, though there are a hundred versions of it.
True love is the One we keep returning to.
Art is the love we make with an invisible other.
It is not lovers who write poetry, but Love.
To love is to mirror shimmering possibilities—your own and those of the beloved.

No More Guns, Please, No More Excuses
Yeah, it's really bothered me. I posted about it on my regular social media (the shooting). Where do you live? I can imagine it's really jolting when you're that close, but it has deeply effected me. The darn news has been circulating footage taken by a student and I don't think I can un-see or un-hear any of that. It's painful to hear a family member or friend advocate for gun rights. This has gone on way too long.
I’m in Fort Lauderdale, it’s near our apartment & not too long ago, there was that airport shooting, down the street.
When did our daily lives become war zones and what moral blindness is required to continue defending the indefensible with this nonsense about 2nd Amnendment.
Innocent children are dying, needlessly, in schools & they talk of the need to have mandatory shooting drills in schools?
What fresh hell is this? Heaven help us!

I admit I’m still rattled by the murder of the 17 kids in FL (near my apartment).
Kids learn from adults—not what they say, but what they do. This latest massacre is evidence of widespread spiritual disease...
