DO YOU KNOW OF DEATH

Do you know of love,
The hunger and thirst,
The weak knees and the fear,
Especially the fear?

Do you know of eyes
Kissing eyes, whispering
Of longing, of need and of fear,
Of leaving, of losing, of failing?

Do you know of loneliness,
Of silent rooms, cold and rumpled sheets,
Wet pillow cases warm with wet cheeks,
Memories lingering on pale walls
Like ghosts, refusing to go home?

Do you know of pain,
Rejected emotions spilling
Through numb fingers,
Failing through tears and silent hopes;
A door swinging, a phone call, a picture,
The empty hearth?

Well, I am a broken poet.
You expect songs that will
Hold you and twirl
But all you get is a dirge;
Do you know of death?

Yes, yes I do... unfortunately, but what can we do but accept it as an integral part of the human experience. You express so much here - the shades that taint life, but in them still the flame of passion. Searing words, truly the voice of an emotionally intelligent poet.

It is indeed a part of the human experience be it love, fear, or even death. These are what bring the spice to life.

Thank you for stopping by and for the kind words. I hope you come again.

Deep poetry bro..
I can relate to the verses..
Mostly the first verse,
The fear.
I can because am passing through that most especially the fear that the hunger and thirst might die someday, the fear of losing that person's love and the fear of how you would cope and love if the person dies.

You get it bro @uche-nna. That fear breaks me and makes me weak

This is a great piece. Really sad and pained.

I'm not much of a poet but a broken clock is right twice a day.

So here is my take.

I think you could have used other synonyms of fear and wet. Maybe you were going for alliteration, ionno .

Anyway, my thoughts 😃. Have a great one.

It was more about juxtaposing cold and rumpled sheets with wet pillows warm with wet cheeks.
We expect pain to be cold, empty but it can also be warm and wet.
The truth though is I do not think of poetic devices when I write. I let the words speak to me and if they say what I consider to be true, I put it down.

BTW, I like to use words that tell the thing as it is. I don't really like sanitized words.
