His heart beats with the Japanese,
ancestors all bred to please.

Your instincts are to protect the infant,
your own life you would lay down in an instant.

Through the centuries you've shown loyalty,
a canine adored by the royalty.

In ancient times it was the snake,
protecting the child you would never forsake.

The unwavering devotion has forever been said,
with an occasional wink and tilt of the head.

For many centuries, the Shiba Inu has been bred to protect babies and families.
