High School Days
So tomorrow night is the start of my 10 year High School Reunion and as a tribute to that, I thought it would be nice to write a poem about High School. My personal experience in high school was pretty good. I think of those days fondly. But, it had its moments…probably for all of us. The thing to remember is that we don’t stop learning when we graduate high school even if we don’t go on to college or another form of higher education. Hopefully, we have learned from our mistakes and our victories from those days and are better people for it.
What are your thoughts about High School?
Do you remember way back then?
Is there anything you would change,
If you could do it all over again?
Were you the jock into sports?
Or the scholar making straight A’s?
Did you find your niche in the band?
Or star in all of the plays?
Were you on the student council?
Or did you just hang alone?
How many kids did you mentor?
Was detention your second home?
Did the teachers call you their pet?
Or did they make you feel dumb?
Did you try to give it your best?
Or were you more or less numb?
How many games did you go to?
Did you support all the teams?
Can you still sing the school’s fight song?
Do you recall all the screams?
What about all of the dances?
Did you regularly go?
Were you voted as royalty?
Did you prefer fast or the slow?
Were the pep rallies stupid?
How many do you think you skipped?
Did you live your life freely?
Or did you play a part in a script?
There are so many questions unanswered
About why some things happened back then.
Was the kid with the zits and the glasses,
Not worthy of being your friend?
Maybe you were the one being bullied.
Did you try hard to fight back?
Was it easier for you to just take it,
Then to risk another attack?
Or maybe you loved it in high school.
You wouldn’t trade a thing.
But if you are one of the masses,
It’s probably somewhere between.
Between the happiest moments
You had a letdown or two,
But don’t let those high school days fool you
You’ve still got some learning to do!
