Grandma's Quilt. Poem by @sweetjoy
There was no connection
It was all gone
Family and friends
Very sparse
Like a dried up lawn
No sleep
Tossing and turning
Just a void
An empty space
A yearning
Then one day
Shopping in a five and dime
There was a quilt
That caught my eye
Took me
Back it time
It was a carbon copy
Of a quilt Grandma made
Finest quality
Never fades
The time it took...
cutting and saving
Pieces of fabric
That now look amazing
Some art were used as
Secret Codes
During slavery
For the underground railroad
But for me it meant
Comfort and family
But most of all
a good night's sleep
Family and friends have
Passed on
Or just got busy... on and on
Paid the price
For a gem that day
Generations of kids
Have this to say:
"I love the house that grandpa built, all my toys and grandma's quilt."
Enjoy your day!!
