VENGEANCE - A Poetic Piece

Day and night I sought it,
With a heart so poisoned and dark,
And with a bitterness unknown,
I served it with a passion from hell.

Now dirt hangs on my conscience,
My innocence eroded like soil,
For vengeance was not mine to serve,
Despite my hurting pride.

Guilt eats away my soul,
My conscience plagues my heart like hell.
And despite repentance,
I am still haunted by my thoughts.

Now solace I constantly seek,
In music, sleep, and faith
But in their absence I am haunted,
And consumed by regret and fear.

It's so wrong to be vengeful,
And to anger we must be slow,
For once vengeance is served,
A guilt that lingers forever is born.
