Poetry is one of the oldest form of art and literature, writing a poem is just like telling a story with a twist, it can be very simple but it can also be very complicated, poets writes a poem maybe in his experience, in the place where they go, for their love ones or maybe in just a random thoughts that comes in their minds.

But did you know that there are different types of poems and many poets are creating their own style of poetry.

DIFFERENT TYPES OF POETRY

Haiku
Haiku is a traditional japanese type poetry.A haiku poem consists of three lines, with the first and last lines having five syllables, and the middle line having seven syllables, most of the haiku poems are about nature but any subject can be use in this type of poetry.

Acrostic
Acrostic poem is a type of poetry where the first, last or other letters in a line spell out a word or phrase, the most common form of an acrostic poem is where the first letters of each line spell out the word or phrase.

Palindrome
Palindrome poem is one of my favorite type of poetry, it is very fun to read because it has a twist but it is also very challenging to make one, Palindrome poem is a poem that you can read both forward and backward, many of palindrome poems express the negative and positive side of its subject.

Free Verse
It is a type of poetry that does not require any rhyme scheme or meter. Poems written in free verse, tend to employ other types of creative language such as alliteration, words that begin with the same sound and the repetition of vowel sounds. Some people find free verse to be a less restrictive type of poetry to write since it doesn't have to employ the form or the rhyming schemes of other types of poetry.

Ballad
Ballad poems are mostly used in the song lyrics, just like songs most of ballad poems are about life and love stories, and as a song does, ballads tend to have a refrain that repeats at various intervals throughout.

Pastoral
This kind of poetry is about peace and harmony, the first pastoral poetry deals with the loves and lives of shepherds and shepherdesses, and other such country folk, sometimes it is used symbolically. Often the shepherd is a poet, his songs become his poetry. but now the typical theme of this poems are about corruption, city life and through this theme, political statements are sometimes made.

Sonnet
Sonnet is a fourteen line poem with a variable rhyme scheme, from the Italian sonetto, which means “a little sound or song," the sonnet is a popular classical form that has compelled poets for centuries, traditionally the sonnet is a fourteen-line poem written in iambic pentameter, which employ one of several rhyme schemes and adhere to a tightly structure.

William Shakespeare, famous for writing more than 150 sonnets including his popular Sonnet 138 is credited with creating for a form of the sonnet that enjoyed widespread popularity throughout England for hundreds of years.

Elegy
If you're bitter or hopeless elegy poem is the best for you, Sad form of poetry is called elegy poetry. Elegies express a lament, often over the death of a loved one or broken stories this makes elegies especially popular for funerals. Some elegies are written not only to be read out loud, they can be put to music and sung.

Limmerick
A limerick is a poem that is often silly or whimsical,it is the kind of poem mostly loved by kids, written in five lines with an AABBA rhyme scheme. Often, limericks tell a short, humorous story. These types of poems have been popular for hundreds of years, mostly in the english language. When limericks first became popular, they often expressed ideas that were crude and off-color but today, limericks express all sorts of ideas.

Epic
Epic poem is the longest and one of the oldest type of poetry, this kind poetry is just like story telling, it is narrative, mostly epic poems are about mythical stories, story about journey of a person or about a epic folk stories.

Imagery
this type poem is about explaining the characteristic of a place, things, person, animals or events. It is like writing a picture that comes in your mind, mostly this kind of poetry tells how beautiful or amazing a person,nature or anything the world possesed.
