Glisten (an original free verse poem)

GLISTEN

---

After feasting with his daughter and her family on his favorite meal,
An Old Man makes his way to the lone rocking chair on the front porch.
The youngest of the daughter’s three children quietly follows.
The Old Man is staring up high at the snowflakes falling from the sky.

For what seems like hours, the young boy watches, as the Old Man continues his gaze.
Then, in an earthquake of a moment amid the serenity in the young boy’s world,
He watches in slow motion as the Old Man’s eyes slowly follow a single flake.
Just as the flake hits the ground, the Old Man’s eyes begin to shut.

The young boy rushes over to wake him.
Just three steps in and the young boy trips, leaving him on his back, staring up at the sky.
Then, in a moment that exists to not a soul but him . . .
The Young Boy watches as a lone flake rises from the ground.
