A POEM A DAY KEEPS THE DOCTOR AWAY: Actions Alone

I am a traveler who just completed a 2 month journey across the U.S. and Thailand. Along the way I was finally able to truly find a vision for a poetry collection I began 2 very long years ago. Actions Alone

So many in our generation claim to identify with the ideologies presented by the counterculture movement; and, materiality-wise adhere to all the fastidious fashions and stereotypical regurgitations of cliché and ignorant thought.

We are the generation that watched as they force-fed a-list actors and child stars, materialism and consumerism, prescription escapes and over sexualized ads down the throats of our sons and daughters.

We watched as they bombed our cousin’s cities and children through computer screens;
as they still fight intangible demons;
as they bandage over atrocities with propaganda painted in rhetoric.

We live with 10 year olds who look 20
We live with 40 year olds deluded by benzos into surgical fountains of plastic youth.

We see a culture increasingly numb,
and, worse, increasingly indifferent-

if we don’t do something,
here, now,
then who will?
How far will it go
if we let this crucial moment
progress unchecked?

Didn’t you hear?
Belief leaves us at a standstill.
Action alone arouses change.
