Steemit Poetry Contest #7 : Miles Away From Home
This is my first entry poem for the Steemit Poetry Contest #7 hosted by @terrycraft. Thanks to @deeday31 's post for I got to know this contest.
Miles Away From Home
Two birds chirping on the terrace,
Sunlight brings gush to my face,
The smell of bacon whets my appetite,
Mama's cooking in delight.
The shower's still drippin',
Papa forgets to tightly close it, again!
Now, Charlie's wagging,
He really knows the morning ritual we're joyously doing,
Two days left,
and surely everything will be missed,
A promise of prosperous life,
I'll be miles away from home, what would it be like?
To work overseas has been a norm in my country, Philippines. Every year thousands of Overseas Filipinos Workers (OFWs) leave their family to work abroad in search of better opportunity and life. It is heart-wrenching to witness how one leaves his family - their home just for the dream of providing good future to their family. In return for that dream is the sacrifice to be miles and miles away from them for many years.
