THE WOODPECKER'S LULLABY (An Original Poetry)
Tap tap, tapping on heaven's door
we're fluffy things on trees,
singing songs in ding dongs,
beating beaks like rhythms,
like ballet on hardened glass
yapping away on ceramic floors,
hoping you'll drowse into slumber,
like oil congeals in winter,
never to wake till the summer sets.
Tomorrow's a melody to savour,
till the evening will smile,
we'd stand aloft the obeches,
tweeting sweet thrills,
screeching from our voice boxes,
bursting our larynx on chords
soliloquizing in baritones,
till we anti-climax from vocals into moans
We're the woodpeckers,
and here's our lullaby
to them who slumbers on soft things,
cuddling tender tissues,
with fragile ones with dreamy eyes,
our beak, a guitar at hand,
amidst five, we're an orchestra,
while the wild wind conducts,
listen sweetly to our lullaby
Tap tap, tapping on heaven's doors,
we're medicines to frightened ones
solace to them scared of nightmares
from dusk to dawn,
chirping verses and rhymes,
like the harp of David,
till the hands of sleep slips us away
slurping us into a chamber,
where the body is blissfully resting
