Storm Surge
Steamship clouds
Tear down fences
Buffet houses;
Wild animals remain
Within their dens
Safe from the wind
And its reckless whims.
Dark skies and leaves
Carried up high
Black rain splatters
All passersby.
Within, the house
Candle lit,
Softly glows
With golden tints.
And, without, the wind
With angry fit
Pounds on walls
With its bare fists.
This is wonderful .... could be a haiku if you wanted:)
a windstorm rages
inside calmed with candle light
pounding on the walls
Loved those steamships clouds, picturesque. Great write. I indulged and read it a few times:)
Thanks, Pryde - yes, it could be a haiku :)
Beautiful poetry. It is so close to nature. I liked your poetry. Thanks @johnjgeddes
thank you
I have driven through Kansas with winds and clouds you describe. An appropriate description I must say. Your poem brought back very vivid memories...frightening! Nice John!
Thanks, @birdsinparadise - we just experienced 100 mph winds the other day which prompted the poem - as I write, I can hear the sound of roofers replacing shingles...tap, tap, tap, lol
That's such a unique way of phrasing it, really capturing the heaviness and power seen and felt before a storm. Such a feeling of warmth and safety by the end too. I love the storm season - it's (counter-intuitively some would say) one of my favourite things about summer, being on my porch at night when the humidity breaks. Winter storms not so much!
Well done. Such a masterful piece of poem from the don himself @johnjgeddes. Very inspiring, Thank you for this poem.
I agree, lazarus - I remember sitting out in the cool of the evening after a heat wave - it's one of my favourite memories
The nearness of peace and fury is a vivid reminder of life’s fragility. Loved it, John.
very true...thank you, lydon :)

Excellent poem, very timely for these dates when we have so much rain almost daily.
Another great poem! It's the little things like family that take us back to our center even when everything go on around us is a complete storm of chaos.
