At the end of Words
To a mirror
Of memories—
A rainy day,
Where I revisit
Our history...
And this time
Don't walk away.
I explore the empty places
In my heart—
Times we were together,
And are now apart.
As the foghorn echoes my grief
With the lonely sound of the sea,
And the soft sobbing
Of waves and weeds
Is the sad music of my dreams.
Our love notes
Drenched in rain
Blur
In a fog of pain;
And at the end of words
You leave
And I'm trapped
In a maze of grief...
Lost in a drizzly lane,
Alone with the mist and pain.
Nostalgic poem, @johnjgeddes, in which landscape and feelings come together. There are moments in which a balance is made of the things that have been done, of the relationships and the balance is negative. In this case we see how the lyrical voice searches in its maritime and rainy environment for the remains of a relationship that has ended, but continues like a wave, wetting the shores, crashing against the stones, echoing in the air. It is not the grey of the afternoon that predominates in these verses, but the darkness, the feeling of sadness that nests in the words and in the heart of the poet. Nice night for you.
Thanks, Nancy. I like to refer to the soul as the interior landscape, or inscape and that's where all poetry takes place. The outside world is the objective correlative and provides the symbols and metaphors to body forth these truths - waves, rain and mist...the sad two-tone dirge of the foghorn and the feeling of abandonment in a drizzly lane. Nice night to you too :)
Your poetry is pretty good!!!
Your poetic diction is not difficult, that's why I could quickly grasp the message of your poem.
Keep writing @johnjgeddes!
Thank you. Mastering poetic diction is easy if, like me, you have the mind of a child :)
Nice poem :)
thanks
