growing up

we must be willing to take pain.
as soon as we accept pain, we accept pleasure.
this life is a pursuit of happiness.
we are all working towards that one goal.
treat it as a journey,
where discoveries are made along the way,
surprises hidden.

everyone's got fears.
befriend them.
emotional dependence is one of mine.
unconsciously i place dependency on certain people.
this is dangerous as these people might not be around forever living under the terms you desire them to.
once there's a shift,
the insecurities surface.
i become restless.
panic fills the air in the room.
obsession takes over.
the peace within me evaporates,
my usual independent self becomes a little crazy with a need to possess these certain people. which is why i'm learning to appreciate people as they are, give them space to come to you... the most important thing is to keep calm. don't get overwhelmed. sleep it off. tomorrow is a new day. reach this peace by enduring the pain, and reaping the rewards after. have patience. have breadth of heart. have the grand scheme of things in your mind. know when to walk away and let go...

timing and fate. fate and timing.
what comes out of this immediate attraction?
you've got a hold of my heart.
your attention fixed on me.
a step too fast, a step too late.
timing and fate. fate and timing.
they go hand in hand.
for now, we can only think of each other during the darkest hour of our night.
my imagination is running wild.
there's way too much intensity between our eyes.
bodies drawn closer and closer...
yet the barrier of karma is between us.
another time perhaps... but remember, you're on my mind tonight.

Nice poem!

Good poem @honeybee. You know, pain protects us from danger. You know, the lepers, their disease prevents them from feeling any pain and that is why they hurt themselves more and more. When we put our hands on a burning plate, we will react and remove our hands because we feel the pain, but lepers whose hands have leprosy, they can be holding the burning plate feeling no pain but the skin will get more damaged and deformed, worst and worst. So I notice your first sentence that we must be willing to receive pain as we grow up - how true. They actually protect us from further damages and make us grow.

I am currently going through a rough breakup, and some of this poem really put into words how I want to handle the situation... it put things in perspective for me. Thanks!

Growing up is certainly not an easy thing to go... and time passes by real quick which is bewildering. Acceptance of so many things in this journey called life is really important. Very well written poem.

@honeybee

Beautiful wordsmith and a very helpful poem to boot!

@honeybee it's really a great poem!! Poets are soldiers that liberate words from the steadfast possession of definition and you did it:))
