Origami - A Small Poem

Ballet Ballerina Black and White Poem.jpg

Stretch. Elongate, let things linger, it feels so good, to spread. You can cover it, you can engulf all. You are all reaching and there is nothing you can't yet become.

Fold. As long as you've been you're now receding, withdrawing. Shambles, falling upon yourself, falling down. Only you are there to catch yourself, like a house of cards.

Unfold and Twist. Light through you, broken points, lines and creases. Your shape changes once more, not along your original lines or lack of them, but the new marks that criss-cross your form.

Be. Like a cultivated pearl you are there to be watched, free to remain in your new form, forever bound from returning to your original state.

I really love the ending of this. You chose a great picture to go along with this piece, because it was like a dance all the way though with final line serving as the proverbial finishing sequence that brings the audience from their seats. Great write.

Thank you!

When I thought what sort of image would go with this poem, I just knew it had to be a ballerina. I wanted one leaning down while sitting on the ground, but this one was just better than all the other options.

And yes, if I have a "skill", it's an impactful final line. Alongside with a good first page. Sadly, those skills do not add up to what one needs to write a book, namely, the middle :D

Great metaphor to work with! I love the Heading words as a poem unto themselves.

Stretch
Fold
Unfold and Twist
Be

That was sort of my "signature style," back in the day, though I usually put it at the end, and it just worked so much better here, with this piece in particular, due to its structure and content. It was also one of the later ones, so I guess I applied what I learned elsewhere.

Glad you liked it! :)
