Time’s A Silent Bridge (An Original Poem)
It never lasts long enough
and always goes too fast,
life is a tapestry of memories
that slips into the past
we are trespassers
in those days gone by,
we should never linger long,
for here and now
is where the lessons lie
ignore the siren’s song
each breath is
like a silent bridge
we traverse from then to now,
we must learn to
take our steps with faith
without knowing why or how
we step ‘cross these planks
to find all the ways
in which we’re broken
and in all the ways we’re weak,
a vague unrest
propels us forward
on that silent bridge
towards everything we seek
love is the only thing
in this world that’s sacred,
all that’s true and real,
let’s keep stepping ‘cross
these crooked planks together
until we find a way to heal.

Those first four lines say it all to me, Eric - relevant especially after coming back home. As always, beautiful words.
Thanks, friend. That's exactly what I was thinking about when I wrote those four lines.
I could tell!
: ) You were so right, reentry was tough.
Ah yes, well said! I like how you call this the siren's song...so so true
we are trespassers
in those days gone by,
we should never linger long,
for here and now
is where the lessons lie
ignore the siren’s song
Glad you enjoyed it. I'm guilty of lingering in the past sometimes. Woody Allen's film Midnight in Paris does a great job showing the pitfalls of doing this.
yes you're right that film does this well. I too bring the past in to the present far too often.. really not good for anything except stories. I've been trying to "use" this past rather than relive it in my consciousness in hopes it'll provide some worthwhile fodder for creativity.
We are on the same wave once again. I just began a poem yesterday titled, "What Happens After Coffee." The first line-
It seems the day ends
before it begins.
I really like that title. I'm looking forward to reading it! This time of the year the speed of passing time is even more apparent. I have a section in my soon-to-be-published meditation book about how we can fine tune our perception of time to make it slow down a bit. It was interesting to think about deeply.
Nice poem Eric, I like your doggie as well !
Thank you! He's an original, the best dog I've ever had.
touches my heart :)
I'm glad you enjoyed it, @royalmacro!
Thank You, and the worst of it is, the more of your allotted time you've used , the faster it goes by!
You're welcome! That's so true, @awgbibb!
Well done! I love to see and read original content on Steemit!
@kus-knee (The Old Dog)
Much appreciated, @kus-knee!
Love your poetry! Are you going to publish it all soon? I'm waiting :)
Thank you, @angierose! I do publish two handmade poetry chapbooks per year with ones I've recent written. One day I might publish all of it. It would be thick though, I have over 500 of them now.
Amazing... Life is certainly worth living in the moment and not dwelling on, or even romanticizing the past. Love is where it's at, I agree :))
Thanks, @macskby. Yes, love and the present moment!
Absolutely outstanding poem! Upvoted and resteemed!
Thank you, @riosparada!
