Haiku: Alien Friends
"Alien friends are here
Of the legal kind out there
Go get me those chairs"
"I can't seem to choose
If I should ask for a cruise
Or some rocket shoes"
"I'll get both they say
So nice even though they're gray
We should go and play"

What is the difference between traditional haiku and freestyle haiku
Traditional haiku must follow a pattern, 5-7-5 (five syllables in the first line, seven in the second line and five in the last line with a total of 17 syllables). In freestyle, there is no set amount of syllables. The idea there is to catch the spirit rather than the form of the original Japanese art form.

I'm sure that if one writes a haiku in English, the spirit is what is important because syllables give us a structure that is nothing but a structure when not filled with the spirit.
