Looking For God - An Original Poem

Several years ago, when I was but a lad
I looked at my mother in the eyes
While working on our tiny orchard
And asked, "where does God live?"

"In the sky" my mother stammered
And went back to her work.
So, I started looking for God in the sky.
I wanted to see the white-bearded man
Who, Mama said, created man and the beasts.

In the night, for long hours,
I would stare at the sky
Looking for God,
The big man that sits on the fence of no where.

I would see the milk in the moon
With millions of dancing stars
That escorts travelling dark clouds to nowhere.
But God was not there.

Then I went to the temple
Where I saw the congregation of the saints
Whose heads dance to the tune of the piano
But God was not in the temple.

Afterwards, I went to the seashore
And saw how the waves of the sea ran back and forth
Like goalkeeper in the face of goal.
There, I saw smiling little children
Building houses in the sand.

I saw the fire in their eyes
The innocence on their faces
And the love in their hearts
And I saw God in their midst
For God is love.
