I am @poetec

in #poem7 years ago (edited)

Hello, folks. I told you in my introductory post that I'd been checking out Steemit for a while before I made that post. I didn't go into much detail and I didn't mention that I had dipped my toe in the waters by posting some of my poems. But that's what I did. I was just too chicken to post under my @bhmcintosh account.

I used the https://anon.steem.network/ service to create an account with the username @poetec. Under that account I have been anonymously posting some of my poetry, for about the last two weeks.

Why did I post anonymously, instead of just using my @bhmcintosh account? Well, I was a bit scared, at first. I've made blog posts before, on various little websites here and there, but nothing consequential in terms of sharing my poetry (although I did submit a couple of poems to poetry.com, way back in 2000), so this would really be a new experience. And I was a bit apprehensive about it.

So, having just recently discovered Steemit, I wanted to see if there might be some interest here. And believe me, I worried about it. I wondered if I should do it or not. I procrastinated. But finally, I thought that if no one cared for what I was posting I could just distance myself from my anonymous persona and move on from the experiment, having learned something, if nothing else, but with none the wiser.

What an idiot! I shouldn't have worried. Or been scared. I know that now. Not because I've received some kind words about some of my poems (although I have, which is admittedly gratifying), but mainly because I've realized that it's more about putting yourself out there and being ok with the outcome, good or bad.

Anyway, it really should have been a no-brainer, but now I believe I understand what I need to do. From this moment forward I will no longer be posting to my @poetec account. Instead, I'll post all of my poetry right here at @bhmcintosh. I'll continue to use a unique mandala image for each poetry post, though.

To avoid any double-dipping I will not try to move those old posts from @poetec to here. Instead, I've included links to those posts, in case anyone wants to check them out. The links are at the bottom of this post.

Perhaps some of the folks that kindly chose to follow me over on @poetec will feel inclined to join me here instead. I hope so. I'll certainly ask. But even if that's not the case, my hope is that the folks that follow me here will find something to their liking.

Before I sign off, here's a link to a poem I was planning to post on that other channel, but I think I'll introduce it here. I hope you like it:
