Tony Martin's Sizzletown

Multiple ARIA award winning comedian Tony Martin is back with another comedy podcast.
This time it takes the form of a send up of talkback radio and the various crazy people who call into radio stations. The conceit is that he only has access to 3 sound effects with which his sound engineer, Matt Dower, can use.

The Humour

The humour is rather dry, but each episode builds upon each other and becomes wilder and whackier as the episodes go on and eventually becomes rather metta. There are in-jokes for those who are podcasters, or those who listen to a lot of Australian podcasts, but don't worry a lot of stuff is explained from episode to episode. The effect is that because of repeated listens, you will pick up the kernels of ideas leading into the next episode.

The Characters

My favourite character so far has to be Dion, a young troubled lad who keeps ringing up to find out whether the podcast is offering any prizes and his law breaking antics. Other characters include elderly men who suggest topics for the show, a pretentious guy who tells him how crap the podcast is and why and everyone he's offended in the previous episode. His catchphrase "What's it gonna beee?"is already a popular hit on the podcast's Facebook page.

The Episodes

At the time of writing this there are 6 episodes and they come out every two weeks. They are best listened to one after the other. I listened to the first 5 episodes repeatedly on the journey to Queensland.

The End Music

The end music will have a mixture of clips from the same episode as samples included at strategically funny moments within the song itself. It's very upbeat

Trigger Warning: Problematic Content?

One of the running jokes on the show is the political correctness of the host, Tony Martin, surrounded by characters who are anything but. While he doesn't swear, make racist or sexist comments, his characters are given free reign to do so with hilarious but unrepeatable results, while he struggles to maintain a sense of both class and tact on the show.
There are no real trigger warnings needed nor is there problematic content, it just pretends that there is. Not one for children, most definitely though.

Availability

The show is now available via iTunes, and Podbean but the easiest way to find the show is to just google "Sizzletown podcast" and it should come up with the option to play or download individual episodes. It's the one show that I just cannot wait for.

Sort:

I prefer to read than listen to podcasts. Although it does seem to annoy the other drivers ;)

Now THAT's funny!

Hey @mattclarke, is there a way of blocking the spambots attaching themselves to my posts? The mute function doesn't seem to be working.

Mute should stop you from seeing their comments, although it might take a while to kick in?
Unfortunately readers will still see those comments unless the reader has also muted the spammer, or the spammer has been heavily flagged.
