POCKET TOKENS and SMTs - TO FORK or NOT TO FORK? That Is The Question!

Since the introduction of Pocket Tokens as the first subtoken here on the Steemit Blockchain we have seen them used in all sorts of interesting ways. Everything from awarding comments, rewarding works, raffles, contests to sports tipping!

Since the introduction of Pocket Tokens, the talk of "sub tokens" has been all the go with the announcement of Smart Media Tokens (SMT).

As things move along, the idea of subtokens is becoming a lot clearer to many people who at first (like myself) had a lot of questions on the topic.

Lately the word "Fork" has been thrown around all over the place, as we have seen a few of these happen in the Bitcoin (BTC) blockchain. With new Crypto being introduced and literally handed out to the owners of BTC.
We all saw BTC being bought up by every Tom, Dick and Henrietta out there, all hoping to jump on the bandwagon and make millions overnight! Good luck to them, all the power to them.

Now, having said all this as a short intro to this post, I will address the concept of a "Fork" with our Pocket Tokens once the SMTs are introduced.

Unlike most of the SMTs that shall be introduced, Pocket Tokens already have a user base here on our Blockchain. So this is an extreme advantage!

The current Pocket Tokens that we have are listed on Bitshares and as such already have a market, as far as trading goes.

Many people here on Steemit, thanks to those of us utilizing our Pocket Tokens, as described in my intro, have heard about Pocket Tokens and this name is not something "new" or should I say "unheard of". Although to be upfront about it, there are many more Steemians who have not heard about Pocket Tokens yet and this just goes to show that we have a market for them right here, right now on Steemit.com.

So when I take these facts into account, I see a very bright future for our Pocket Tokens.

Why?

Well, after watching the BTC forks happen, and there is one happening again very soon, I can't help but see a similar chain of events happening right here on our Steemit Blockchain with Pocket Tokens.

Lets think about it:

If Pocket Tokens were to go through a similar process of a Fork as what was done with the BTC Forks, the demand for Pocket Tokens shall increase, hence driving their value up.

Likewise, the owners of Pocket Tokens shall be issued SMT Poket (Tokens) which are known of on the market and which have users who are already in a position to utilize them from the word "GO".

The "Founding Fathers" of Pocket Tokens shall be in an excellent position to figure out a way to run a Initial Coin (Token) Offering (ICO) as a part of the Fork, so as to ensure that the new SMT Pockets have a sound and firm funding behind them here on our Blockchain.

The existing Pocket Tokens that we own shall still be listed on Bitshares, can still be used as they have been to date and shall possibly become more valuable as they can serve as a parallel reward token along side the SMT Pockets.

Again taking all this into consideration, it is a WIN, WIN, WIN, WIN situation.

Current Pocket Token owners WIN.

New SMT Pocket owners WIN.

The Pocket Token account here on Steemit grows in value = WIN.

& The founding fathers of Pocket Tokens, well, WIN WIN WIN in every aspect!

If the Fork were to be organized in a manner that covers all of the above stated, it is definitely a WIN, WIN, WIN, WIN situation.

Due to the current nature of the existing Pocket Tokens, there is no reason why these can not function on as they have to date along side SMT Pockets.

Of course, if the suggested new SMT Pockets were to just replace the existing Pocket Tokens, then the above formula is irrelevant and it all comes down to a typical gamble. We all know that gambling doesn't always work out the best for those who are gambling!

However, if we Pocket Token owners can come to an agreement as to the protocol for the potential Fork, then WE decide on how it shall be done and WE should do what is best for ALL of US.

Some may think that I am putting the cart in front of the horse, so to say, or "It's still early to be talking about this".

Is it?

SMTs are out on the market for BETA testing in December (if all goes as planned).

That is just around the corner!

So, what better time than NOW to start discussing the potentials of a Fork once the SMTs are introduced!

Better to be PROactive than REactive. That is what I believe.
