RE: POCKET TOKENS and SMTs - TO FORK or NOT TO FORK? That Is The Question!

in #pocket7 years ago

Interesting. So your proposal is to snapshot Pocket balances and create an entirely separate SMT based on that? So we'd have legacy POCKET, that people could transfer around with pocketsend, and we'd have SMT-POCKET, and they would be separate things?

Sort:

@biophil is there any data or analytics available for the pocket tokens. For instance, circulating supply, number and distribution of holders, amount transferred per day or week historically.

I do think it is a great concept and definitely a trial balloon that may well have helped inspire the SMT concept on STEEM. But for me I don't see a lot of activity and it all seems very opaque. I am one who is reluctant (or even indifferent) about promoting it when there could be an unlimited supply or someone sitting on 80% of the tokens - for example.

Current statistics are posted weekly by @pocket-pi. The total supply is 1,222,001,222, and I've publicly stated that I won't support any changes to the protocol which increase supply.

Unfortunately we don't technically know about the 1 person sitting on 80% of the supply problem, but I'm fairly sure it's not that bad. There are a handful of community members that are known to control single digit percentages (myself included), but no more is known for sure.

Taking this into consideration too, the concept I have presented above in the post for a "Fork" is more than justified.

WIN WIN WIN WIN

I truly believe that this could be the best way to ensure POCKETs become world known SMT and subcoin Crypto and at the same time the best localized Crypto here on our Blockchain.

You do realize that the fork wouldn't be POCKET, right? You're calling it SMT-POCKET, but it would just be an arbitrary sharedrop token given to holders of POCKET. It would diverge from pocket classic until the two had nothing to do with one another.

It sounds like you're even advocating diluting it with an ICO. What's the actual purpose?

By the way, I probably won't oppose this if you or anyone else decides to go for it. I will, however, strongly advise against calling the airdrop token "POCKET," since it won't be pocket. I also won't run an ICO at this point, for legal reasons. Of course I can't stop someone else from running an ICO.

Well, the reasoning is as follows:

  1. The SMT market is going to happen no matter what anyone thinks.

  2. By issuing 1:1 tokens, which we have seen BTC do to date a lot of and hence done all the marketing for us!
We are increasing the demand for our current Pocket Tokens.
So on Bitshares there shall definitely be a rise in the demand and rise in value for our current Pocket Tokens.

  3. An ICO as such would have to be done, because the SMT's are linked to a Steemit account and are dependent upon Steem Power (as defined in the above video by Ned).

  4. Yes, the two tokens shall be independent from each other, from the day GO. That is from the day that the SMT Pockets are released.

  5. As I mentioned earlier, the latest action on the BTC front have not only done all the hard work of marketing this concept, but we too here on Steemit have over 6,000 Pocket Token owners who can post about it here and on other social networks.
Again raising awareness of our current Pocket Tokens and the new SMT Pockets (as proposed) = higher demand for BOTH!

So, this is the logic and reasoning (in short) for this proposal.

PS. if a group of us here were to go for it, then we would still need your assistance for the "snap shots" and so on.

It will need to be a team effort, as it shall influence the value of both the tokens, the current Pocket Tokens and the new SMT Pocket Tokens.

Sure, let me know when and if you want snapshots; I can certainly do that.

For starters, don't kill this post, help out with your ideas and advice.

;)

I don't see why not.

If BTC can do it, and the owners of BTC can make it happen, why shouldn't we learn from them too.

The pockets we have now can be used here on Steemit, as we have been using them, making the value of them go up.
The SMT, well, they have no boundaries (so to say).

This will give all of us a lot more incentive to make things happen for both of OUR Crypto out there. That is, our current Pocket Tokens and the SMT Pockets.

You as the owner of the username behind the SMT do the ICO for those who do not currently own Pocket Tokens and want to get in on the SMT Pockets, the funds go towards the SMT account here on Steemit and you have literally covered all the bases.

We all have to market the ICO and get the word out via many more posts here on Steemit and where ever else 'Pocketeers' have social network accounts.

I truly believe that this could be THE WINNING COMBINATION FOR EVERYONE!
