Niezwykła pasja gołębi pocztowych, znajduje coraz liczniejszych zwolenników.
U mnie zawsze mieliśmy gołębie, było i jest to hobby mojego taty.
Teraz to tylko ptaszki, na które lubi popatrzyć, ale wcześniej wysyłane były na loty miedzy miastowe.
Pamiętam, ze zawsze w niedziele tata ustawiał specjalny zegar i czekał z lornetka, który przyleci jako pierwszy.
Prowadził nawet specjalny notatnik i wszystko w nim zapisywał typu data, godzina i kolor obrączki z numerkiem.
A raz w miesiącu wszyscy hodowcy spotykali się w klubie, rozmawiali i prezentowali swoje dorodne sztuki.

Gołąb pocztowy, nazwany jest listonoszem, jego orientacja w terenie umożliwia mu powrót do gołębnika z odległości do 2000 km przy prędkości miedzy 80 / 100km/h a czasem i więcej zależy od pogody.

Rasowe gołębie hoduje się w gołębnikach na strychach czy poddaszach domów.
Gołębie parują się same ale by mieć dorodne sztuki wybiera się najlepsze samce i samiczki, które umieszczane są w klatkach.
Następnie dochodzi miedzy nimi do kopulacji, samica w tym samym miejscu składa jaja in a zmianę z partnerem wysiaduje je.
Gdy młódki osiągną od 8-10 dni, na jedną ich nogę zakłada się specjalne rodowe obrączki, które są „dowodem osobistym” gołębia.

Zawody gołębi odbywają się w okresie letnim, natomiast przez cały rok ptaki muszą być na diecie witaminowej.
Mozna kupić dla nich specjalna odżywkę lub są one sczepione.

Pod koniec października i na początku listopada rozpoczyna się doroczna zmiana upierzenia.
Wtedy to trzeba uważać gdyż ptaki są najbardziej narażone na atak ze strony predatorów takich jak jastrzębie i sokoły. Inni ich naturalni wrogowie to: koty, kuny, lisy, łasice i tchórze.
